The layout was updated by Facebook on the morning of May 10. |
Early morning of May 10 ( Hanoi time), Meta suddenly updated the interface on the mobile application. Instead of displaying articles in a list, the software arranged the page in boxes with thumbnails. The layout of the largest social network on the planet looks similar to Instagram or TikTok.
However, this change was met with negative reactions from users. In addition to losing familiarity, it was considered less friendly and harder to follow than before. The update was widespread, applied to both personal users, community pages and professional accounts (Professional Mode). It was not tested on a small number of markets to get feedback like previous changes.
Talking to Tri Thuc - Znews, Mr. Mai Thanh Phu, administrator of many large Facebook pages, said that Facebook is copying the interface from other social networks but it is ugly and not as intuitive. On the other hand, Instagram and TikTok are platforms serving videos and photos, requiring thumbnails. On the contrary, Facebook includes text, links, audio, etc. Therefore, replacing it with the above layout is not reasonable.
Users of the world's largest social network also have to spend more steps to view posts, instead of swiping as usual.

On X, Facebook quickly received a wave of criticism. “The new Facebook page interface is terrible. Who came up with this idea? You can’t even read the posts,” said Ashkey.
“Facebook just had a bug or updated a terrible interface. I hope this is a bug,” commented user @CrissPouly humorously. In addition, some pages also appeared to have lost posts. Users only saw short videos, text sharing, and images “disappeared”.
At around 7:30 a.m. the same day, Meta reverted the app back to its old interface. The changes disappeared, the layout was restored. The world's largest social network has not made any announcement about the incident, it is unclear whether this is a bug or a failed update that had to be withdrawn.
Recently, Facebook has released a series of updates related to the application of AI on the platform. Users can use Meta AI to create text, images or exchange directly. Although free, this tool is still far behind ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot in terms of application and accuracy.
The company also recently launched a social network dedicated to AI content, where users can share their ideas and commands. The Verge commented that the platform is like a poster of all the complaints people have about AI, with content that is repetitive, boring, or fault-finding.
According to TechCrunch, this proves that Meta is a business platform, users are the product and customers are the advertisers. Now, this ecosystem is about to form another layer of "junk" content due to AI.
The advertising industry has also shown mixed views on Zuckerberg’s ethical ambitions. In October 2024, more than 11,000 creators signed an open letter condemning the use of human-generated work to train AI systems.
On the other hand, many creatives and advertising executives believe that AI tools will threaten their livelihoods. Johnny Hornby, founder of advertising agency The&Partnership, published an editorial on May 6, arguing that building a successful brand campaign is still a distinctly human job.
