Dien Bien Phu City is about 500 km from Hanoi . Below are places not to be missed when coming to Dien Bien Phu on the occasion of the 68th Anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory Day (May 7, 2022).
Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument
The project is located on D1 hill, right in the city center. The monument is the tallest, largest and heaviest bronze statue in Vietnam to date. The statue is 12.6 m high and cast from 217 tons of bronze.

Hill A1
Hill A1 is located next to Highway 279, Muong Thanh Ward. This was the most important stronghold of the French colonialists during the Dien Bien Phu campaign, with attractions such as tunnels, tanks, "thousand-pound" explosive craters (photo) created by 960 kg of explosives... Some special experiences include cooking soldier's rice with a Hoang Cam stove, pushing a bicycle carrying necessities, listening to historical stories...

A1 National Martyrs Cemetery
The cemetery is located on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, a few hundred meters from the historical site of A1 Hill. This is the resting place of 644 officers and soldiers who heroically sacrificed their lives in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Most of the graves are anonymous. The cemetery manager's house has the typical stilt house architecture of the Thai people in Dien Bien, the outside platform is designed according to Khue Van Cac.

Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum
The museum is located opposite the A1 martyrs cemetery, including the basement and the ground floor designed in the shape of a truncated cone, with diamond-shaped decorative details symbolizing the camouflage net of a pith helmet. The museum displays hundreds of artifacts about the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

The highlight of the museum is the Panorama Painting , one of the world's largest works on the subject of war, recreating the entire Dien Bien Phu campaign. The painting is 132 m long, over 9 m high, along with the adjacent dome, with a total surface area of about 3,250 m2.

Martyrs Temple at Dien Bien Phu Battlefield
One of the new destinations of Dien Bien Phu historical tourism is the Martyrs' Temple at the Battlefield, Hill F. This is one of 45 points of the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield National Special Monument, located next to Hill A1. From the top of the hill, visitors can see Muong Thanh field, the largest field in the Northwest. The highlight of the temple is 56 candles symbolizing 56 days and nights of fighting in the campaign. The project was inaugurated this year, on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.

Dien Bien Phu campaign headquarters in Muong Phang commune
Located at the foot of Pu Don Mountain, the headquarters is nearly 30 km from Dien Bien Phu city. This is where General Vo Nguyen Giap worked and rested during the Dien Bien Phu campaign. From the highest point, visitors can observe the entire Dien Bien Phu city, Muong Thanh valley and French bases such as Him Lam hill, Doc Lap hill, D1 hill, C1 hill, A1 hill... The Victory Monument cluster at Muong Phang Park (photo) is also a stop not to be missed when coming here. Coming to Muong Phang, visitors also have the opportunity to visit simple stilt houses, learn about the life and cuisine of the Thai ethnic people.
