The slope roof "hangs" on the porch
Mr. Hoang Tien Dat's family, Tan Lin village, said that the land behind the house was dug deep into the foundation of the outbuilding, creating a slope nearly 3m high.
“After the construction unit dug up the land for the project, I had to build an embankment to hold the land, but only 2 months later, the embankment collapsed. Now the land continues to flow, and a few days of heavy rain could cause the entire backyard to be lost,” Mr. Dat said worriedly.

Looking down at the riverbank, large areas of land were deeply gouged, forming a chasm, with murky water flowing below. The fear of landslides has made Dat’s family live in constant fear. “At night, just hearing the sound of falling earth wakes us up. We just hope that the units will soon take measures to reinforce it so that people can live in peace,” Dat shared.
Not only Mr. Dat, Mr. Tran Quoc Hien's house was also affected. Behind the house is a steep bank of earth, many cracks have appeared on the bathroom and kitchen walls.

“Previously, the land behind the house was flat, and I planted trees to hold the soil. When the project was implemented, they dug deep, cut down all the trees, and created a slope 3 to 5 meters high, but did not build a retaining wall. Now the bank keeps sliding, and every time it rains, it erodes a little more. This rainy season, my family does not dare to leave home far away,” said Tran Quoc Hien.

The small cracks on the house walls have now spread, signaling the risk of subsidence. Mr. Tran Quoc Hien shared that no one wants to leave the place they have been attached to for many years, but if the landslide continues, his family will be forced to move to ensure their safety.
“We understand that the project was designed to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and help people live in peace. But now the project itself is making us worried. We just hope that the authorities will soon intervene and reinforce the slopes so that people do not have to live in insecurity,” said Mr. Hien.

According to the reporter, there are currently 7 households in Tan Lin village, Dinh Van Lam Ha commune directly affected by the slope erosion. Some outbuildings have been damaged, the land behind the houses has sunk deep into the foundation. Many roofs and riverside gardens now seem to be "hanging" suspended between the red soil blocks that are gradually sliding down into the water.
Disaster recovery project - new risks arise
The Da Dang River Disaster Remediation Project, through Tan Van Commune and Da Don Commune (now Dinh Van Lam Ha and Phu Son Lam Ha Communes), is invested by the Lam Dong Provincial Agricultural and Rural Development Construction Investment Project Management Board. The project started on October 27, 2023 and was completed and put into use on December 27, 2024, by Lung Lo Construction Company.

The project aims to overcome riverbank erosion, ensure safety for residential areas and stabilize the flow after natural disasters in previous years. However, during the construction process, new erosion points appeared in some sections, causing concern for people living along the route.
In the construction area, many sections of the riverbank were dug deep, creating high slopes but were not reinforced with a protective embankment system. The heavy rains that lasted for a long time in June and July caused the soil to be washed away and slid into the riverbed, taking with it a part of the cultivated land and gardens of people living along the riverbank.

Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Dinh Van Lam Ha commune inspected the field and sent at least 3 petitions to the Project Management Board and the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, requesting early solutions to handle and reinforce the slope sections with high risk of landslides.

Mr. Hoang Viet Lam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dinh Van Lam Ha Commune, said that after receiving feedback from the people, the commune authorities inspected the current situation and put up landslide warning signs at dangerous locations. "We have reported to the superiors and at the same time recommended to speed up the construction progress and take temporary reinforcement measures soon, especially during the stormy season," Mr. Lam said.

In addition, the People's Committee of Dinh Van Lam Ha commune has proactively developed a plan to urgently evacuate households in high-risk areas to ensure the safety of life and property in case of a bad situation.
On the other hand, at the meeting with voters on July 10, 2025 of the National Assembly Delegation of Lam Dong province, voters of Dinh Van Lam Ha commune also reported the landslide situation and recommended that the authorities and investors take measures to promptly remedy the situation and avoid widespread landslides during the rainy season.
The People's Committee of Dinh Van Lam Ha commune has sent a document to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, requesting the Project Management Board to urgently remove obstacles, speed up the construction progress and soon complete the project. At the same time, request the construction unit to reinforce the slope sections with high risk of landslides to ensure safety for households living along the river.
