Farmers in Van Son ward monitor and check the situation of pests and diseases on orange trees.
With 15 years of experience growing oranges, Mr. Tran Van Khanh, group 68, Van Son ward, clearly understands the development cycle of pests and diseases on orange trees. At this time, the oranges bear young fruit, he proceeds to prune the undeveloped young fruit. Mr. Khanh said: My family has more than 5 hectares of oranges, cared for according to organic processes. In the past 3 years, I have invested in raising earthworms on an area of 600 m2, providing fertilizer for orange trees, helping to improve the quality of oranges, reduce pests and diseases, and save costs; orange output reaches more than 100 tons of fruit/year; the average selling price is more than 30,000 VND/kg, the family earns more than 3 billion VND/year.
At LamSon Farm Moc Chau, Dong Sang ward, 8,000 black grape trees on an area of over 1 hectare are carefully cared for, preparing for harvest. Taking us to visit the vineyard with straight rows of grapes laden with fruit, Mr. Nguyen Van Quyet, the farm owner, shared: In order for grape trees to grow to high productivity, it is necessary to follow the techniques of fertilization, canopy shaping, and pruning. To ensure good growth of the trees, avoiding the harmful effects of pests and weather, the farm invests in growing them in greenhouses and automatic irrigation systems; using iron poles and steel wires as trellises for the grapes to climb, and wrapping the fruit to prevent pests and diseases. When it is about to harvest, the soil moisture is always taken into account, ensuring the sweetness of the fruit. This year's grape crop is expected to yield more than 40 tons of fruit, meeting the needs of tourists coming to visit, experience, and buy grapes in the garden.
