Due to the heavy rain on May 29, many newly planted rice fields in Yen Thanh and Dien Chau districts were flooded and damaged. Immediately after the water receded, farmers rushed to the fields, focused on pruning and re-sowing to keep up with the summer-autumn crop production schedule.

Due to the impact of heavy rain on May 29, many newly planted rice fields in "flood-prone" districts such as Yen Thanh and Dien Chau were flooded and severely damaged, forcing local authorities and people to urgently deploy remedial measures.

Meanwhile, thanks to late planting, the districts of Quynh Luu, Nghi Loc, Hung Nguyen and Do Luong were fortunately not affected by this heavy rain.

In Yen Thanh district, many newly sown rice fields were deeply flooded and damaged. After the water receded, people quickly went to the fields to fix the problem. Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh (Xuan Thanh commune) said: “My family has 2 sao of rice that was flooded, now we have re-cultivated the land and sown again. We also covered the fields with plastic to prevent rats from destroying them.”

According to Mr. Phan Hoang Thu - Chairman of Xuan Thanh Commune People's Committee, up to now, the locality has planted and sown more than 70% of the area. The damaged area has been basically repaired, thanks to taking advantage of favorable weather and strong direction from the government. "We also ask the hamlets to clear the sewers, ensuring drainage when there is heavy rain" - Mr. Thu said.

In Long Thanh commune, about 35 hectares of rice were flooded, many of which were severely damaged. Mr. Duong Hoai Khoa, a farmer in Van Trang hamlet, shared: “My family had 6 sao of rice damaged after the rain. We quickly patched up and fertilized the rice so that it could recover in time.”

Chairman of Long Thanh Commune People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van De, said that the commune has planted more than 500 hectares of summer-autumn rice. Currently, over 90% of the affected area has been remediated by the people, mainly by pruning and re-sowing. In addition, farmers are actively catching golden apple snails - a pest that breaks out during the flood season.

To ensure agricultural production, local authorities are mobilizing forces to dredge canals and sewers in residential areas, increasing drainage capacity and preventing continued flooding.

According to Mr. Le Van Hong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Yen Thanh district, the whole district has planted 6,000/11,500 hectares of summer-autumn rice, currently over 50 hectares were flooded and damaged, and over 80% of the area has been repaired by the people. It is expected that Yen Thanh district will finish planting summer-autumn rice on June 20.

In Dien Chau district, heavy rains also caused about 70 hectares of newly sown rice to be flooded, mainly in Dien Thai, Dien Nguyen and Dien Ky communes. According to Mr. Le The Hieu - Deputy Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Environment, up to now, the recovery work in the communes has been basically completed by over 85%. The whole district has planted 3,500 hectares out of the planned 6,000 hectares and is expected to complete the summer-autumn rice planting before June 15.
