People's Artist Nguyen Huu Phan, director of the film Ma Lang, passed away.

Ms. Nguyen Dieu Trang, daughter of director and People's Artist Nguyen Huu Phan, posted information about her father's passing on her personal Facebook: "And the candle in my heart has gone out. Goodbye, our Dad."

The news of director Nguyen Huu Phan's passing has caused colleagues and audiences to express their condolences. Directors Khai Anh and Trinh Le Phong also sent their farewells to People's Artist Nguyen Huu Phan.

Screenwriter Trinh Thanh Nha wrote on her personal page: "When he started showing symptoms of the disease, we met more often, or when we couldn't meet, we called each other. But when I learned that he had just "passed away", I was still speechless, hoping that he would be hospitalized and then discharged like many times before.

Well, everyone has their own way of leaving, that's an inevitable law. I hope you leave peacefully, ending all worries and pain."

Director Nguyen Huu Phan was born in 1948 in Hanoi, his hometown is Van Giang, Hung Yen. He is famous for the movie "Do you still remember or have you forgotten" and TV series about Vietnamese countryside such as: "Land and people", "Village ghosts", "Gio lang Kinh"...

He graduated from Hanoi Pedagogical University I and worked as a literature teacher before switching to pursue his passion for filmmaking.

In 1979, he, along with Khai Hung, Do Minh Tuan, and Vu Chau, became students of the first course of the University of Theatre and Cinema.

In 1992, director Nguyen Huu Phan produced the film "Do You Still Remember or Have You Forgotten" and made a splash with 4 Silver Lotus Awards. In 1994, he was invited by director Khai Hung to the Vietnam Television Film Studio (VFC) and began making long-running television series.

In 2008, the film "Village Ghost" won the Golden Kite Award for Best Director of a TV Series.

In 2012, director Nguyen Huu Phan was awarded the State Prize in the field of literature and arts. He was awarded the title of People's Artist in 2015.
