Born into a fishing family, with a mother who sold seafood, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (born in 1971, residing in Tan Hai village, Thien Cam commune) was familiar with the salty taste of the sea early on. Memories of her childhood, going to school and struggling to make a living with her mother, became the driving force, urging her to build a career, exploit the potential and develop the economy from the sea.

Sharing about the early days of starting a business, Ms. Lan said: “In 1990, after getting married, my husband and I still chose to “work hard” in the seafood business. From familiar local fishing boats, I started to expand to neighboring areas in and outside the province; from a small scale, I gradually increased purchasing output and diversified products. However, at that time, there were few staff and insufficient equipment, making all activities still difficult and arduous.”
In 2007, realizing that the seafood resources exploited by fishermen were increasing and the market demand was increasing, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan established Nam Lan Seafood Purchasing Facility, located in Hai Nam village, Cam Nhuong commune, old Cam Xuyen district (now Thien Cam commune). The facility has 2 factories with a total area of nearly 700 m2 , invested in professional equipment including: materials, fishing tools, ice makers, cold storage, aerators, 4 refrigerated trucks... with a total cost of tens of billions of VND.

From here, Nam Lan Seafood Purchasing Facility has become a "familiar" for fishermen in Thien Cam and Cam Trung communes in particular and many coastal areas across major provinces/cities such as: Da Nang , Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An... "With the motto of always creating the best conditions to support fishermen in consuming products, my facility regularly updates good prices for each item such as: crabs, snails, shrimp... Depending on the season, the catch is different, but on average every year, my facility has supported fishermen in consuming nearly 500 tons of various types of seafood" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan shared.
Fisherman Le Khac Tinh (Vinh Loc village, Cam Trung commune) shared: “The fishing industry depends heavily on the weather and seasons, so difficulties and uncertainties are always present. However, for many years now, every time our boats dock, we have been supported by Nam Lan staff in classifying, processing and selling at good prices. We do not have to worry about the output, the catch is purchased accordingly, thanks to that, we have more motivation to stay at sea to make a living, contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands.”

Not only does it "support" fishermen working at sea, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan's business also creates stable jobs for 25 local workers with an income of 10-12 million VND.
“Over the years, market fluctuations, the impact of the epidemic situation, and storms have significantly affected the business activities of the facility. However, Ms. Lan has always encouraged and supported us with the best conditions so that we can work with peace of mind. After 13 years working at the facility, I feel her passion and affection for the business, for fishermen and seafood from my hometown. Thanks to this job, I have an additional source of stable income to cover family expenses and raise my children to study,” Ms. Vo Thi Suong shared.
Not only is she a good businesswoman in the coastal area, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan has also been trusted as the Head of the Hai Nam Village Women's Association for 12 years (from 2007 to 2019). During the process of both doing business and "shouldering" the local tasks, Ms. Lan has always been active in new rural construction activities; encouraging women to develop the economy from coastal industries and occupations; connecting, propagating and mobilizing members to well implement the policies of the Party, the State and the Women's Association at all levels.

Up to now, Ms. Lan has actively participated in the activities of the facility, especially volunteer work, encouraging disadvantaged families in the area. "On average, each year, my facility has allocated hundreds of millions of VND to give gifts to poor households, near-poor households, families of meritorious people in Thien Cam commune; organized annual volunteer activities at pagodas, schools... The gifts, although small, are a message and sharing for people to improve their lives, accompanying the locality in socio-economic development" - Ms. Lan shared.
Having spent decades in the maritime economy, businesswoman Nguyen Thi Lan has not only researched and learned from practice but also researched, expanded, and kept up with market trends. Currently, she is the "bridge" bringing seafood products from Ha Tinh fishermen to many provinces/cities across the country such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hanoi... and exported to foreign countries. "For me, doing business always requires putting credibility first, working with prestige and enthusiasm will surely gain the trust of people and customers" - the businesswoman shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan is a typical businesswoman, exemplary in production and business in Thien Cam commune. The support of large, reputable purchasing units in the area such as Nam Lan facility plays an important role in consuming products for fishermen, while helping the locality promote its advantages and boost the marine economy.
Over the years, Ms. Lan and her colleagues have also actively participated in and accompanied social security activities in the locality, especially volunteer work for the poor... The local government will always create the best conditions for businesses and business establishments in the area to continue to develop, building the homeland to become more and more prosperous and civilized.
