Female medical worker in Nghe An was attacked and had to be hospitalized for treatment

(PLVN) - After being suddenly attacked by a patient's family member at the patient check-in counter, a female medical staff member had to be hospitalized for treatment of physical and mental injuries.

According to information from the Nghe An Health Department, after being cursed and threatened, nurse NTA was slapped in the face by a patient's family member while performing her professional duties, causing her glasses to fly off. Her left cheek was swollen, painful, dizzy, nauseous, had blurred vision, and was in a state of panic and had to be hospitalized for treatment.

Previously, at around 11:52 p.m. on May 31, Nghe An General Hospital admitted patient TVL (born in 1972, residing in Nghi Kim commune, Vinh city) for emergency treatment. After the doctor examined and prescribed, the patient's family was guided to the counter to complete the procedures.

At the check-in counter, nurse NTA received the documents and instructed the patient's family to wait outside according to regulations. However, the patient's family did not comply, continuously cursed, insulted, threatened, then reached over the counter and slapped nurse NTA in the face while she was performing her professional duties.

The strong slap knocked the glasses off, causing nurse NTA's left cheek to swell and hurt, along with symptoms of dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, blurred vision and panic. She had to be hospitalized for treatment.

This incident not only seriously affects the health and psychology of medical staff on emergency duty but also negatively affects the medical examination and treatment environment at the hospital.

The incident of the man attacking the female medical staff only stopped when the security guard on duty intervened.

After the incident, the hospital reported it to Nghi Phu Ward Police. At around 00:20 on June 1, Nghi Phu Ward Police arrived at the hospital to handle the incident, but the person who caused the incident had already left the scene.

TVL patient was then examined and treated promptly by doctors according to the correct protocol. At around 2:00 a.m. on June 1, the patient's abdominal pain subsided and vital signs were within normal limits. The family requested to complete the discharge procedures.

Immediately after the incident, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health issued a document to the Chief of Office of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee requesting to strengthen security and safety of the hospital, and advise on investigating the case of assault on medical staff at the Emergency Department, Nghe An General Hospital.

Nghe An Department of Health also sent a document to Nghe An Provincial People's Committee requesting direction on the incident of disorder at Nghe An Provincial General Hospital. The document requested the Provincial People's Committee to direct the Provincial Police to promptly investigate, verify the reported information, and promptly handle individuals who violate the regulations.

The incident is still under investigation by the police.
