Vietnam Olympic team lost in everything, being eliminated is reasonable

"I think it's reasonable that Vietnam Olympic team was eliminated. We lost to Iran and Saudi Arabia in everything," coach Hoang Anh Tuan said after Vietnam Olympic team lost to Saudi Arabia Olympic team with a score of 1-3.

Vietnam Olympic team ended their journey at ASIAD 19. Before the match with Saudi Arabia Olympic team, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team had little chance of advancing. “I feel quite regretful. I have to admit that the players performed better than the previous match, both in terms of skill and spirit. However, the pressure of facing a strong opponent is not easy to overcome. The coaching staff must also draw profound lessons for the whole team, such as the fact that the goals conceded came at very sensitive moments,” added coach Hoang Anh Tuan.

Saudi Arabia dominated the entire match. They opened the scoring with a header from Mohammed Al Yami. This situation put Vietnam in a difficult position in the race for goal difference with the other third-placed teams in the group. Therefore, in the second half, Vietnam had to find a way to score. However, coach Hoang Anh Tuan's players could not do that. Vietnam's late goal was actually an own goal.

" I feel very sorry for the match ending like that. We expected the result. The Vietnam Olympic team is very young, the youngest in the tournament. We lost to our opponents Iran and Saudi Arabia in terms of age and expertise."

Vietnam Olympic finished the group stage in third place and was eliminated (due to being at the bottom of the third-place rankings). Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan said he had gained a lot of information from this tournament, especially when the team faced strong opponents such as Saudi Arabia Olympic or Iran Olympic.

“ We have seen how the Iranian team is, how Saudi Arabia is. I am also a little regretful that in fact, in this tournament, the Vietnamese Olympic players did not play to their full potential, there may be many factors. The players were under pressure so they could not show their best professional ability, that is a little regrettable," said coach Hoang Anh Tuan.
