The 2024 manga sales rankings released by Oricon show that Jujutsu Kaisen leads Japanese manga sales with over 7.6 million copies sold during the year, far surpassing One Piece with over 5.2 million copies.
This is a surprising result for many fans, especially in the context that One Piece is entering its climax and receiving great attention from the international public.
Controversial Jujutsu Kaisen still beats One Piece
Although the finale of the manga Jujutsu Kaisen caused controversy due to its confusing plot and creative decisions that were considered “reckless”, the series' loyal readership is still large enough to put the work on top.
The work revolves around the world of sorcerers and curses, with dark colors, rich in action and emotion, once praised as a new breeze in the modern shonen genre. The anime adaptation produced by MAPPA also contributed significantly to this success.

In 2023, the anime's second season was recognized by Guinness as the "most popular anime in the world", despite controversy surrounding the reduced image quality in some episodes.
These scenes were later edited into the disc release and received a great response from fans.
Notably, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga ended in September 2024 after 271 chapters, leaving fans with mixed emotions.
A compilation film will premiere in May 2025 and MAPPA has confirmed an adaptation of the Culling Game manga, but has not announced a next anime season.
Meanwhile, One Piece remains one of the biggest manga franchises in the world. The Egghead Island arc, which is being adapted into an anime, is considered one of the most important, revealing many mysteries about the One Piece treasure and the true history of the pirate world.
New details suggest the end is near, although author Eiichiro Oda has not confirmed a specific end date.
In addition to traditional manga and anime, One Piece is expanding its influence through other forms such as the anime remake produced by Wit Studio and the live-action version released by Netflix, helping the brand continue to reach a new generation of viewers.
