In October 2024, when Desire Doue quietly left the field after 64 minutes of a lackluster performance in PSG's match against Arsenal.
The image of the next "golden boy" of French football was likened to a lonely star, lost in the pressure of expectations. However, just a few months later, Doue completely transformed, becoming an indispensable factor in coach Luis Enrique's strategy, contributing significantly to PSG's historic treble.
It’s a remarkable rise for Doue, who was born in Angers and struggled to find his feet at Rennes last season. His $58 million move to PSG, which was expected to fill the void left by Kylian Mbappe in attack, was initially met with skepticism.
However, true to his name Desire Doue (which can be roughly translated as "desire for natural ability"), the 19-year-old player has proven his worth. He has matured significantly and become an important piece in the process of building coach Luis Enrique's dream team.
Despite a slow start to life at his new club, Doue didn’t score his first goal for PSG until last December in a 3-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League. But the Spaniard was undaunted. He stuck to his plan of helping Doue progress slowly but surely. And the end result has even exceeded expectations.
In the Champions League, starting with the match against Man City, Doue showed excellent form, directly contributing to the 4-2 victory of the team at Parc des Princes in January. Then in the dramatic match against Liverpool at Anfield, Doue continued to make a strong impression when coming off the bench, then showed incredible courage when he was the one to successfully score the decisive penalty to send PSG into the quarter-finals.
Continuing to face another representative from England, Desire Doue had one of his best matches of the 2024-2025 season. The young French player drew a perfect curve, scoring a super goal against Aston Villa in the first leg, contributing to the 3-1 victory for PSG.
And to close out a hugely successful season, Doue directly scored to help PSG defeat Inter Milan 5-0 in the early morning of June 1. Thereby helping the French team win the prestigious Champions League for the first time.
This is a well-deserved achievement for the young Frenchman after his tireless efforts. If Doue continues to maintain his progressive spirit and make every effort, it is only a matter of time before he becomes a world superstar.
