Mr. Ho Nhan, CEO of COVID-19 vaccine company 'Made in Vietnam', passed away

Mr. Ho Nhan, general director of Nanogen Company, the research unit that produces the "Made in Vietnam" COVID-19 vaccine, has just passed away at the age of 59.

The information was confirmed by Ms. Nguyen Thi Son, founder of Son Kim Group, and also mother-in-law of Mr. Ho Nhan.

On her personal page, she shared: "Many times I met you. You said you had heart disease and said you were very tired. But then you enthusiastically and actively threw yourself into your work. I know you are a young man with many career ambitions, with many wishes to contribute to society and you have proven that you can do it.

That day, many of my mother's friends came to your factory to ask to be injected with the Nanocovax vaccine. Well, my child, you may not be famous, but you have become a person."

The passing of Mr. Ho Nhan leaves much grief for his family, the business community and those who accompanied him on the journey of developing Nanocovax, one of the COVID-19 vaccine research projects in Vietnam during the pandemic outbreak.

Mr. Ho Nhan, born in 1966, is an overseas Vietnamese in the US and has been the leader of Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Joint Stock Company since the company was founded in 1997.

When the COVID-19 pandemic appeared in early 2020, he and his team planned to research a vaccine, then used their own company funds to research and develop Nanocovax, without using the state budget.

This vaccine has been approved by the National Council of Ethics in Biomedical Research for phase 1 clinical trials and mid-term evaluation of phase 2 and 3 clinical trials.

The trial recipients, study teams, and sponsors are finalizing phase 3 interim results reports based on the panel's conclusions.

The trial recipients and research team are continuing to conduct phase 3 clinical trials according to the research protocol until February 2023.

Although expected to be the first domestic vaccine to serve the community during the pandemic, the plan to deploy mass vaccination with Nanocovax could not become a reality.

Son Kim Group is a multi-industry private business group, operating mainly in the fields of real estate, retail and fashion . The predecessor of the enterprise is Dai Thanh Cooperative - a textile and garment facility present in the market since the 1950s.

After three generations of succession, Son Kim is now a prominent business family in Vietnam. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Son has five children, of which Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Van (wife of Mr. Ho Nhan) is the eldest.
