Trump outraged over fat belly meme

VnExpressVnExpress18/02/2024

Former President Trump criticized fake news channels for using artificial intelligence to create photos of him on the golf course with an excessively fat belly.

"The Fake News Media used artificial intelligence (AI) to create the image in the upper left corner," former President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on February 16, posting four photos of himself on the golf course. "They are despicable people, everyone knows that."

In the photo in question, Mr. Trump is seen preparing to swing a golf club, with his belly clearly visible under his T-shirt. The other three photos show a leaner former president. "The pictures of me playing golf today show the difference. Sadly, what you're getting is fake news," Mr. Trump added.

It is not clear which media outlet Mr Trump is criticising. The former president’s campaign has not commented.

According to the fact-checking website Snopes, the photo Trump mentioned appeared on social media in May 2017 and was edited, not created by AI. The former president was spliced onto the body of John Daly, a professional golfer and Trump supporter. The photo went viral on Twitter at the time, attracting many comments and speculations about Trump's health.

Mr Trump, 77, is not exactly a healthy person. During his 2017-2021 presidency, his doctor recommended that he lose about 15 pounds through healthy eating and exercise.

When he appeared in court in Atlanta, Georgia in August 2023, Mr. Trump weighed 98 kg and was 1.9 m tall. Dr. Bruce Aronwald said in November that the former president had lost weight through diet and daily exercise. "Mr. Trump has a normal physical exam and excellent cognitive testing," Mr. Aronwald wrote.
