Paris outraged by insensitive joke after Hakimi injury

A joke by Josip Stanisic after Bayern beat PSG 2-1 in League Phase, Champions League early morning November 5 caused a stir on French social networks.

The Croatian defender was heavily criticized for laughing about the tackle that seriously injured Achraf Hakimi.

After the match, Stanisic caused outrage when he made a joke in the press box. When asked about the situation that injured Hakimi, the Bayern player replied: “We thank him. (Laughs) Just kidding! He was happy, like all of us.” He also revealed that Luis Díaz did not apologize to Hakimi after the foul.

This statement immediately sparked anger on social media. Many PSG fans criticized Stanisic for being insensitive and disrespectful to his opponents. RMC Sport called this “a bad joke”, while emphasizing that the Croatian player “admitted that his teammate committed a dangerous foul, but still found it funny”.

In contrast to Stanisic, other Bayern figures such as Manuel Neuer and coach Vincent Kompany expressed sympathy. Coach Kompany compared Hakimi's injury to Jamal Musiala's at the Club World Cup and sent wishes for a speedy recovery.

Initial scans have shown that Hakimi’s injury is not as serious as feared, with PSG confirming he could return to action in around five weeks. However, in Paris, the after-effects of the tackle and the insensitive joke will surely linger.
