Pavillion “Dragon and Snake in the Clouds” in the heart of the Vietnam National Museum of History

(To Quoc) - One of the spaces that many tourists come to visit and learn about at the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 is the "Dragon and Snake in the Clouds" Pavillion located in the campus of the Vietnam National Museum of History (No. 1 Trang Tien, Hoan Kiem District).

Pavillion “Dragon and Snake Rise to the Clouds” was designed by architect Nguyen Cong Hiep and his colleagues from CA' Library, as a dialogue between contemporary elements and the ancient look of the unique architectural campus of the Vietnam National Museum of History.

Unlike the usual Pavilions (independent, public architectural works) that aim to create a focal point to orient the space for the festival, the Pavilion “Dragon and Snake Rising to the Clouds” was built with the desire to become a part of the Museum landscape, not competing with the main architecture but creating a place to attract people to come and admire this heritage work.

According to architect Nguyen Cong Hiep, the name “Rong snake len may” comes from the winding shape of the building, which is an association with a folk game that seems to have been somewhat forgotten in the present. By designing and naming this, the creative artists both hope to bring a harmonious flexibility to the space and arouse the joy of playing and exploring of the younger generations, thereby linking it to the heritage building and historical treasures that are being stored and displayed in the National History Museum.

Interspersed in the Dragon Snake space are the installation works “Does Scale Matter?” displaying models of the National History Museum at different scales from 1:20,000 to 1:75 and made of different materials.

Visitors to the “Dragon and Snake in the Clouds” Pavillion can admire and explore the appearance of the building from many angles to gain a deeper understanding of the history and architectural style of the Museum.

In addition, most of the materials used to build the Pavilion are reused mirror stainless steel panels from the Pavilion called “Waiting Station” at the Hanoi Creative Design Festival in 2023.

Reusing materials is also in the architects' idea to convey the trend of creative regeneration in the future.

The "Dragon and Snake" Pavillion in the heart of the Vietnam National Museum of History attracts many tourists, especially international tourists.

Pavilion “Dragon and Snake in the Clouds” combined with exhibitions of miniature museums, creative games, watercolor painting exhibitions... has been chosen by many tourists as the destination of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024.

“Rong snake len may” is considered old and expected to become a space, a place for both entertainment, exploration and historical viewing suitable for many ages, many generations, including children.

Through this, it continues to affirm the efforts, initiatives and creativity of the creative community of Hanoi in particular in promoting creative activities, the progress of the City in realizing Hanoi to become a Creative City of Vietnam and a creative center of the region.
