Peru unveils prehistoric dolphin fossils, dating from 8 to 12 million years ago

Peruvian paleontologists on September 17 announced the fossil of a prehistoric dolphin species, dating back 8 to 12 million years.

The specimen was found in the Ocucaje desert, about 350km south of the capital Lima.

The fossil, about 3.5m long, was discovered by paleontologist Mario Urbina in July in the Pisco strata, an area known for its well-preserved marine fossils.

This is a rare discovery, helping to expand knowledge about prehistoric marine mammals./.
