Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that cancer is still one of the leading health burdens in Ho Chi Minh City, with the number of new patients continuously increasing. Recognizing this problem, the city has planned to build a number of Cancer Screening Centers and other non-communicable diseases, aiming to reduce the rate of new cases, improve the prognosis and quality of life of patients.

According to comrade Nguyen Van Dung, in the context that Ho Chi Minh City is implementing the Project "Developing the health system to become an ASEAN regional health care center from now until 2030 and the following years", the Oncology Hospital needs to continue to develop specialized technical centers, strongly applying modern techniques such as advanced radiotherapy, robotic surgery, targeted therapy and immunotherapy - towards reaching international standards. In addition, improving the quality of medical examination and treatment towards internationalization from the reception process, treatment to comprehensive care, to become a reliable destination for both domestic and regional patients.
"The hospital needs to continue to promote its leading role in scientific research, innovation, especially in the field of early cancer detection, personalized treatment and comprehensive patient care. Actively participate in the digital transformation process of the health sector, develop smart healthcare, towards building a comprehensive, effective, modern and humane cancer healthcare system; continue to implement and comply with the development orientation of the Party and State, striving to become the leading cancer screening center in Vietnam and Southeast Asia", Comrade Nguyen Van Dung suggested.
Previously, speaking at the celebration, Dr. Diep Bao Tuan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, said that over the past 40 years, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital has continuously developed, from the beginning with only 425 beds and 465 employees; to date, the hospital has expanded to 1,300 beds, more than 1,900 employees with full multimodal treatment facilities such as: 13 external radiotherapy machines, internal radiotherapy system, 20 modern operating rooms with positive pressure to ensure sterility.

The hospital is also fully equipped with internal medicine cancer treatment methods (chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy...); diagnostic equipment such as PET-CT, 3 tesla MRI, 128-slice CT, 64-slice CT, automation testing system, new generation gene sequencing system, molecular biology testing...
In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital will continue to develop specialized techniques in radiotherapy, robotic endoscopic surgery and reconstructive microsurgery, apply new regimens in chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy; establish departments of Hepato-Thoracic Surgery, Rehabilitation - Traditional Medicine, specialist screening clinics at facilities 1 and 2, clinical psychology consultation rooms, apply AI in X-ray imaging diagnosis, in radiotherapy planning, in pathological anatomical imaging diagnosis...

In the period of 2026-2030, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital will receive public investment in 5 projects: the project to build a new health examination and disease screening center using high technology; the project to build a 2.7-hectare auxiliary area; the project to build a Proton Radiotherapy Center; the project to equip a cyclotron and a new radiotherapy machine; and the project to invest in medical equipment for facility 2.
On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded the traditional flag to the Oncology Hospital for its achievements in construction and development.
According to statistics from Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, each year it receives more than 880,000 patients for examination, nearly 55,000 inpatient treatments, more than 375,000 outpatient treatments, nearly 39,000 surgeries, 180,000 radiotherapy treatments and 320,000 medical treatments (chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy).
