On the morning of July 29, Trieu Phong - Quang Tri Forest Protection Department ( Quang Tri Forest Protection Department) received a pangolin from Mr. Le Van Khoa (49 years old, residing on Phan Chu Trinh street, Quang Tri ward).
Earlier, at around 10pm on July 28, while sitting in front of his house with his friends, Mr. Khoa suddenly discovered a strange animal crawling in from the street. When he got closer, the animal ran away but then returned. Mr. Khoa quickly caught it and locked it in an iron cage.
After looking up information, he realized this was a pangolin, a rare wild animal, so early the next morning he proactively contacted the forest rangers to hand it over.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Ba - head of the regional forest ranger station (under Trieu Phong Forest Ranger Department - Quang Tri) informed that this is a Java pangolin, weighing about 1.3kg, 50cm long, belonging to group IB - a list of endangered, rare wild animals that need strict protection.
"The pangolin was still healthy when received, with no signs of injury. This case of people voluntarily handing it over like this is very noteworthy," said Mr. Ba.

After receiving them, rangers will take care of them, rescue them and coordinate with conservation centers to release them back into the wild.
The forest ranger representative also said that this is one of the few cases of pangolins being received in the area in recent years. Previously in 2023 - 2024, the unit had received pythons and crocodiles voluntarily handed over by people.
Javan pangolin (Manis javanica) is a species prohibited from hunting and trading in any form according to Vietnamese law and the CITES Convention.
