Discovery and collection of martyrs' remains at Bo De School relic site

On September 17, the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command announced that the 584 Martyrs' Remains Search and Collection Team (Provincial Military Command) discovered and collected 2 martyrs' remains at the historical site of Bo De School (in Ward 3, Quang Tri Ward).

According to information from the Provincial Military Command, during the renovation of the relic site, Team 584 conducted a thorough survey and discovered remains buried about 0.6 m deep, wrapped in military hammocks; accompanied by relics such as infantry shovels, mortar helmets, AK ammunition boxes...

Bo De School witnessed the fiercest days in Quang Tri's history. During 81 days and nights (June 28 - September 16, 1972), Quang Tri town endured hundreds of tons of bombs and shells from B-52 aircraft, gunboats, tanks and armored vehicles. Although most of the buildings in the area were leveled, Bo De School still stood firm, becoming one of the rare structures that survived the battle. The frame of the two-story building of the school remained intact.

The bullet holes that remain on the walls today are evidence of the brutality of the war. In 1986, Bo De School was recognized as a National Historical Relic. In 2013, the school became part of the special national relic complex “Quang Tri Citadel and memorial sites for the 81 days and nights of 1972”. Today, Bo De School is not only a historical relic but also a cultural and spiritual destination. On the first floor of the relic, there is a small altar - where visitors and people from all over come to offer incense and commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives.

Currently, the martyrs' remains are being placed at the Cultural House of Quarter 3, Quang Tri Ward for a memorial service and burial in accordance with regulations. Team 584 closely coordinates with local Party committees, authorities, departments, branches, and socio-political organizations to carefully preserve the remains; at the same time, expand the search area in the surrounding areas where the remains were discovered.
