In the flow of Vietnam's revolutionary history, the press has always held a special position as a means of transmitting information and a sharp weapon of the Party on the ideological and cultural front.

One of the important functions of the press is the ideological function. Not only simply providing information, revolutionary press has the mission of orienting public opinion, sowing the seeds of correct awareness, contributing to strengthening the people's belief in the leadership of the Party and the path to socialism.

In the context of hostile forces constantly increasing their sabotage, distortion, and divisive activities, the press has become the front line in the struggle to refute and protect the Party's ideological foundation.

The Party's resolutions and documents throughout many terms have clearly affirmed: Fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints is a regular, resolute and strong political task and the press is the vanguard force on that front. The press both propagates guidelines and policies and plays a role in consolidating the ideological battlefield, creating unity of awareness and ideology throughout society.

Recently, the People's Army electronic newspaper has maintained the section "Protecting the Party's ideological foundation", with many quality articles, thorough analysis, tight arguments, and authentic evidence.

President Ho Chi Minh - the founder of Vietnam's revolutionary press once affirmed: "The pen is a sharp weapon, the article is a revolutionary proclamation". According to him, the press is not only a collective propaganda, collective agitation, collective organization but also a sharp weapon against all reactionary and negative manifestations that go against the interests of the people and the country. That ideology has become the guiding principle for the development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century.

Thoroughly grasping that spirit, our Party and State always promote the role of the press as a sharp ideological weapon. Resolution No. 16-NQ/TW, dated August 1, 2007 of the 10th Party Central Committee emphasized: Ideological, theoretical and press work must play an important role in protecting and developing Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought, the Party's viewpoints and guidelines, making the Party's ideology, that of the working class, socialist ideals, and good values in the national cultural tradition occupy a dominant position in the spiritual life of society. Therefore, the press must ensure ideology, truthfulness, popularity, combativeness and diversity.

Continuing that orientation, Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW, dated October 22, 2018 of the 12th Politburo on strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints in the new situation also affirmed: Promoting the combined strength of press, publishing and media agencies, contributing to firmly protecting the Party's ideological foundation and effectively fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints. This is a call to the entire press industry: Always be alert, steadfast and proactive in this silent but arduous war.

The 13th National Party Congress continues to set out the requirement to build a professional, humane, and modern press to meet the development requirements in the digital age and to be able to respond quickly and effectively to false and harmful information.

At the same time, this requirement also puts the press in a higher position: Becoming a pioneer in building a healthy information environment, contributing to maintaining political and social stability, strengthening trust, and arousing aspirations for national development.

In his speech at the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the press is a spiritual flame, a light that guides the future, and a weapon more powerful than bullets and bombs in war.

In building, protecting and developing the country, the press is the bridge between the Party, the State and the People, the strength, the inspiration for the entire nation on the path towards a prosperous, strong, independent, free and sustainable future. The speech is a recognition of the contributions of the press, as well as a message, a responsibility that the Vietnamese revolutionary press needs to continue to carry out in the new period.
