Currently, the province has 161/161 communes, wards and towns that have established the Elderly Association with 1,456 branches in hamlets and residential groups and more than 66,000 members. Through the Association, the elderly actively participate in Party and government building, the fight against corruption, border protection and maintaining social order and safety. The province currently has 2,604 elderly people participating in grassroots activities such as: mediation teams, people's inspection teams, self-managed inter-family groups, border and boundary protection... contributing to effectively resolving conflicts among the people and maintaining political security and stability. In the province, 646/1,462 elderly people have been selected for the list of prestigious people for the period 2023-2027, becoming a bridge between the government and the people, especially in ethnic minority areas and border areas.
Responding to the emulation movement of the 100-day and night peak campaign to complete the site clearance for the Dong Dang (Lang Son) - Tra Linh ( Cao Bang ) expressway construction investment project, the Elderly Association at all levels actively and extensively disseminated information to all cadres and members. Particularly in the two districts of Thach An and Quang Hoa, the Association organized 44 dissemination sessions, attracting 529 members to participate. The Association at all levels contributed 185 opinions and recommendations related to the site clearance work.
The elderly are also the core force in building cultural life in families and communities. Implementing the Resolution of the 6th Congress of the Vietnam Elderly Association, the movement "Elderly people build cultural families, model families" has been widely deployed, contributing to preserving good traditions and building a positive lifestyle in each family. The Elderly Association coordinates with departments and organizations to promote patriotic emulation movements associated with studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh, typically the movements "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas", "All people protect national security", "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho"... Responding to the movement "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses", in 2024, the Elderly Association at all levels actively mobilized and supported 960 million VND to build 16 Great Solidarity houses for 16 poor and near-poor households. As of May 2025, the province has established and launched 45 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs, attracting 2,600 members, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life and promoting the role of the elderly in the community. In the province, there are currently more than 1,500 exemplary elderly people who are good at doing business , not only striving to enrich their families legitimately but also strongly inspiring the spirit of entrepreneurship and persistent work for the younger generation, contributing to promoting sustainable socio-economic development in the locality.
Promoting the spirit of living happily and healthily, the elderly also actively participate in cultural and sports activities, enriching spiritual life and maintaining national cultural identity. Currently, the province has 212 regularly operating elderly clubs with more than 9,000 members, focusing on diverse activities such as health care, arts, volleyball, folk dance, etc. In festivals and major events of the province, the elderly are always the core force, contributing to creating a unique, attractive and vibrant cultural identity. Notably, in the mass sports movement, the provincial-level middle-aged and elderly volleyball tournament has become a useful playground, attracting a large number of members to participate. Many senior football teams in the province have achieved impressive results in regional and national tournaments, typically the women's team under 60 years old won second place nationally in 2024. These playgrounds not only help members exercise physically and improve their spirit, but also contribute to connecting the community and spreading a healthy lifestyle.
The elderly are not only a solid spiritual support in each family but also an active and dedicated force in the cause of socio-economic development. Mr. Do Quang Son, Head of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, said: Promoting the 84-year tradition of the Vietnam Elderly Association, all levels of the Association in the province maintain and encourage members to live exemplary lives, live happily, live healthily, and live usefully. With experience, prestige and a sense of responsibility, the provincial elderly continue to affirm their important role in social life, spreading positive values, inspiring the younger generation, contributing to building an increasingly civilized, prosperous and sustainable homeland.
