Promoting the core role in ensuring economic security

In recent years, the situation of economic crimes and violations has become more complicated, occurring in many sectors and areas of social life with increasingly sophisticated methods and serious levels.

Economic crimes in general are not as reckless, daring, or dangerous as criminal or drug crimes, but economic crimes, especially in the field of economic security, are often people with special personalities, educational qualifications, legal knowledge, wide social relationships, and economic capabilities. Therefore, when fighting this type of crime, it is required that officers and scouts of the economic security force have a strong political stance, a firm grasp of the law, and a proactive and determined spirit in the fight to clarify signs of violations by the subjects.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trung Kien, Head of the Economic Security Department, Son La Provincial Police, said: With the assigned functions and tasks, the department has proactively grasped the situation of major and key programs and projects of the locality, programs and projects with foreign elements; comprehensively assessed and forecasted the negative impacts and influences on economic security, security and order, especially compensation and site clearance work, and project implementation progress. On that basis, the department promptly reported to the Provincial Police Department's Board of Directors to advise the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee on policies and solutions to ensure economic security and political security.

In recent times, the Economic Security Department has concretized Directive No. 12 of the Politburo on ensuring economic security in conjunction with effectively implementing Project 03 "Public Security Advisory to Attract Key Economic Projects to Invest in Son La Province in the Current Period". At the same time, the department has advised the Party Committee and the Board of Directors to issue many documents on economic security; effectively implemented topics on preventing and combating money laundering; security of industrial parks, economic zones, etc. In 2024, the unit has proactively advised the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Provincial Police to contribute opinions on 1,100 documents of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, and the Provincial People's Committee on the appraisal of investment programs and projects.

As a province with diverse and abundant energy resources, attracting many investors in projects related to the energy sector, the Economic Security Department has focused on implementing measures to grasp the situation; proactively advising local Party committees and authorities in the energy sector according to the provisions of law, ensuring security and order in the locality, creating a transparent environment to attract investors. In particular, the most prominent highlight is the national key project Son La Hydropower Plant when during the construction process, on all fronts, there was the presence of Son La economic security forces to ensure the safety of the century project from the start of construction until it came into operation.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trong Hanh, Deputy Head of the Economic Security Department, Son La Provincial Police, informed: The unit always proactively advises, develops and synchronously deploys plans and schemes to protect the economic security of the project; well implements coordination regulations, implements protection plans, coordinates patrols and controls, ensures security and order of the project... Thanks to that, the Son La Hydropower Plant project is always guaranteed absolute safety.

Promoting the unit's tradition through generations, the Economic Security Department of Son La Provincial Police has constantly innovated in terms of organization, leadership methods and working measures towards focusing on key topics, fields and areas in order to proactively prevent, promptly detect and effectively fight against crimes that violate economic security in the province. In the past 5 years, the unit has received the Emulation Flag of the People's Committee of Son La province for two years; 17 collectives and individuals have been awarded Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Public Security and 98 have been awarded Certificates of Merit by the Director of the Provincial Police in emulation campaigns; two years the Party Cell has been recognized as "Excellently completing tasks", two years "Goodly completing tasks", one year the title of "Advanced Unit", three years the title of "Victory Unit"...
