Developing clean vegetable and fruit production models

Việt NamViệt Nam20/09/2023

The production of clean vegetables and fruits (safe, VietGAP, organic...) is being implemented by localities in agricultural development. Many concentrated production models have been built and promoted effectively. Currently, the province is continuing to encourage the formation of more clean agricultural production areas, especially vegetables, fruits, to meet the increasing demand of the market.

The High-tech Agriculture project combining experiential tourism of Thanh Ha Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative in Dong Du Commune (Binh Luc) with an area of 19.5 hectares is being implemented. The unit is renovating and building an irrigation canal system, irrigation water tanks, warehouses and 3,000 square meters of selective greenhouses. Vegetables, tubers, fruits, and spices have begun to be planted in some areas of the production area... Mr. Mai Huu Doan, Deputy Director of the Cooperative, said: The project is being implemented to synchronously build infrastructure, renovate the land suitable for growing vegetables, tubers, fruits and start production. In the winter crop of 2023, there will be a number of qualified vegetable products brought to the market...

The high-tech agricultural project combined with experiential tourism in Dong Du was implemented from December 2022. On a total area of 19.5 hectares, 4 hectares will be used for infrastructure construction. The remaining area is arranged for over 80% of the area to grow a number of product types: sprouts, baby vegetables, and spices; the remaining area will serve experiential tourism. The unit will invest in 7 hectares of greenhouses to grow various types of vegetables to ensure requirements on design, quality, proactively respond to weather, prevent pests, etc. The production process is applied according to VietGAP standards. When it goes into stable production (about 3 years from now), it is expected that Thanh Ha Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative will sell 3,000 kg of vegetables, tubers, and fruits of all kinds to the market every day. This is a large-scale production project, promising to create a new change in the province's agricultural production.

At Lien Hiep Safe Vegetable Cooperative, Thi Son Commune (Kim Bang), 5 hectares of production land are being exploited and promoted well. In this year's winter crop, the Cooperative started planting from the beginning of September. A variety of vegetables, tubers and fruits are grown, such as: cabbage, kohlrabi, mustard greens, mustard greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. Most of the vegetable production is sold to collective kitchens and clean agricultural product stores that have signed contracts with the Cooperative.

Meanwhile, at Ha Vy Agricultural Cooperative, Nhan Chinh Commune (Ly Nhan), for many years now, the model of producing vegetables, tubers, and fruits meeting VietGAP standards has been effectively maintained on an area of 5 hectares and the surrounding safe production area. On this area, people have signed a consumption contract with Bao An Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative (Vinh Tru town) to supply to the VinMart supermarket system. According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Director of Ha Vy Agricultural Cooperative, producing vegetables, tubers, and fruits according to VietGAP standards is the main development direction of people specializing in vegetable cultivation in the area. This method helps to expand the market and stabilize product consumption prices. Income from VietGAP vegetable and safe vegetable areas at the Cooperative is 1.2 - 1.3 times higher than outside the model.

The production of clean vegetables, tubers and fruits is being maintained and expanded in localities in the province. These are models that apply scientific and technical advances and high technology to production. The province currently has 8 greenhouse models, 13 screen house models, 3 water-saving misting and drip irrigation systems with a total area of over 3.6 hectares. At the same time, there are more than 264 hectares of crop production certified by VietGAP, 17.1 hectares meeting organic standards, 605 hectares meeting food safety conditions, including a significant area for growing vegetables, tubers and fruits.

Clean vegetable, root and fruit production models have brought many benefits to both producers and consumers. Notably, production uses less chemical fertilizers, pesticides and chemical disease control drugs, contributing to protecting the field environment. Products brought to the market are of good quality. Most of the areas that meet safety, VietGAP and organic standards have contracts to link product consumption with supermarkets, clean agricultural product stores, and collective kitchens (enterprises, schools, etc.). Product prices are stable at a higher level than the free market; areas of vegetables, roots and fruits grown in greenhouses and screen houses have a value 2-3 times higher than outside because they are not much affected by the weather, can be grown off-season, and prevent many pests, etc.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Nga, Deputy Head of the Department of Crop Production, Plant Protection and Forestry (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), clean vegetable, fruit and root production has proven effective in the fields. The agricultural sector is currently coordinating with localities to build new models. At the same time, it is strengthening propaganda, training and transferring scientific and technical advances in production to the people.

The goal of the agricultural sector is to continue expanding production models in general and clean vegetables, tubers and fruits in particular. This approach not only creates a chain of links, increases value and income for people but is also a direction to help develop agriculture in a sustainable direction.
