Recognizing the importance of communication work, the Department of Health has established a Steering Committee for information and communication work and built a medical communication network consisting of 50 leaders and staff working at 21 medical units to effectively implement communication and healtheducation work. Directing medical units to develop appropriate communication plans, creating a flexible, widespread and practical communication system.
To make medical communication truly effective, the provincial health sector has diversified traditional forms and methods such as billboards, posters, loudspeakers, and direct communication sessions in the community.
Keeping up with the national digital transformation trend, Vinh Phuc's health sector is gradually digitizing medical communication. The websites of the Department of Health and medical units not only provide medical information but are also channels for interaction with the people. In particular, social networking platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, and YouTube have become important communication tools in the digital age.
Communication content focuses on essential areas such as disease prevention and control, food hygiene and safety, proper nutrition, reproductive health, prevention of non-communicable diseases, expanded immunization... Topics are built in a way that is close, accessible and meets the needs of each target group, helping people gradually improve their knowledge and change their health care habits in a proactive and scientific way.
The Provincial Center for Disease Control plays a key role in the communication work of the Department of Health. The Center has a Department of Communication - Health Education consisting of more than 10 well-trained staff. In addition to disseminating new policies and legal documents related to health, the staff of the Department of Communication - Health Education also proactively disseminates practical content on holidays, Tet, festival seasons... under the direction of the Ministry of Health and the Provincial People's Committee.
Having worked in medical communications for 20 years, Mr. Do Van Toan, an officer at the Provincial Center for Disease Control, shared: “We have participated in training courses on journalism, writing skills, video editing, social media handling, etc., which has gradually improved our professionalism and ability to respond to communication situations. With a sense of responsibility and dedication, we have contributed to bringing useful medical information to the people, thereby enhancing their trust in the health sector.”
As a leading medical unit at the provincial level, the Provincial General Hospital is a pioneer in medical communication work. The hospital has established a specialized communication department, the core of which is the Social Work Department, which regularly participates in training to improve communication skills and effectiveness. The hospital's fanpage updates information on medical examination and treatment activities, introduces new techniques, preferential programs, doctors' working schedules as well as health consultation content. In particular, during the Covid-19 outbreak, the hospital has become an official information channel, transmitting accurate information, fighting fake news, and contributing to stabilizing people's psychology.
The Provincial General Hospital regularly organizes communication programs at schools, businesses, and residential areas with topics such as "Prevention of chronic diseases", "Early cancer screening", "Proper nutrition for the elderly"... thereby creating trust and connection between the hospital and the community.
Vinh Phuc Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital also built a communication strategy suitable for the specialized unit on maternal and child health care. Doctor To Quang Hung, Director of the hospital said: “The hospital's fanpage provides practical information related to pregnancy care, vaccination schedule, child nutrition, injury prevention and common signs of illness in young children, which is followed by many people. Prenatal and postpartum classes are held periodically to help mothers improve their knowledge and prepare mentally before and after giving birth, reduce anxiety, and increase initiative in taking care of their own health and that of their babies.
The hospital also organizes communication activities at schools and in the community with contents on school health education, prevention of hand, foot and mouth disease, proper child care at home... contributing to building a safe and healthy environment for children to develop comprehensively.
Health stations also promote propaganda on local loudspeakers, send propaganda articles to schools and residential areas, and organize health propaganda sessions in the community to provide health care knowledge to people.
Mr. Ly Van Thanh, Ngoc Thanh commune (Phuc Yen) said: “Thanks to the multi-dimensional information system, our people have access to a lot of useful knowledge. I myself always listen to medical news on loudspeakers, Facebook, Zalo and participate in first aid training. From that knowledge, at the end of 2024, I helped a local escape the danger of electric shock to save his life.”
With thorough investment, flexible thinking, and innovation, medical communication in Vinh Phuc is affirming its key role in building a healthy community. In the coming time, the provincial health sector will continue to promote community-based communication and apply digital transformation to improve the effectiveness of medical communication.
A modern healthcare system is not only about high technology and modern equipment, but also requires the understanding and proactive prevention of each citizen. When people know how to take care of themselves, trust the healthcare system and actively participate in community health activities, that is the greatest success of healthcare communication.
