On July 28, Thach That District General Hospital ( Hanoi ) announced that the hospital's doctors had coordinated with experts from the central level to perform surgery to remove an extra kidney from a young female patient.

Specifically, patient PTD (25 years old, residing in Tien Xuan commune, Thach That district, Hanoi) was hospitalized with abdominal and lower back pain, burning pain when urinating, cloudy color, difficulty urinating, and foul odor. After performing tests and examinations, doctors determined that Ms. D. had a right double kidney and ureter malformation and a urinary tract infection.

The laparoscopic surgery to remove the accessory kidney for Ms. D. was difficult and required high precision. It was performed safely and successfully by the doctors of the Department of Surgery, Thach That District General Hospital, together with Dr. Nguyen Dinh Lien - Head of the Department of Urology - Andrology, Hospital E (Hanoi).

Accessory nephrectomy (removal of the non-functional upper kidney) is the standard treatment, in the past, doctors often had to open surgery. Later, thanks to advances in recent years, laparoscopic accessory nephrectomy has been successfully performed at many centers in the country and around the world .

Double kidney is a congenital abnormality of the kidney, often without symptoms.
