The film is inspired by the novel "Love story of Queen Nam Phuong" by writer Tran Thi Hao, a collaborative project between Galaxy Studio, HKFilm and MAR6 Studios, under the direction of director duo Bao Nhan and Namcito.
In her last years, Queen Nam Phuong lived in the village of Chabrignac (France).
The film "The Last Queen" tells the story of more than 10 years of living in the Forbidden City of Queen Nam Phuong, from her tumultuous marriage with Emperor Bao Dai until the Royal Family left the Imperial City ( Hue ) to begin a life of seclusion. The life of Queen Nam Phuong and her love story with Emperor Bao Dai is a romantic and tragic story, between the last emperor of Vietnam and a beautiful, talented young lady.
The film crew is looking for an actor who can exude the beauty and special temperament of Queen Nam Phuong - a woman with pure Vietnamese beauty, sharp intelligence and Western-educated demeanor. In addition, the role of Emperor Bao Dai is also given special attention, with the criteria being someone who appears calm, affectionate and generous.
In addition to the two main roles, other important roles such as Crown Prince Bao Long, Concubine Mong Diep, Phi Anh, Ly Le Ha, Bach Yen, Khue Cac, Vinh Can, Princess Phuong Mai, Phuong Lien, Phuong Dung, and Prince Bao Thang are also being selected.

The online casting will last for more than a month, after which the candidates will enter a live casting round with directors nationwide. The selected actors will undergo training, acting training and royal etiquette skills for at least 9-10 months before filming begins.
The film "The Last Queen" is expected to start filming in 2025 in Hue, Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, Ho Chi Minh City and Chabrignac (France), where Queen Nam Phuong lived before passing away in 1963. The film is expected to be released in 2026.
