On the morning of October 31 (local time), in Cambridge, UK, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung led a Government delegation to visit and work with AstraZeneca Group.
AstraZeneca (AZ) is the world's leading multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical group. The group currently operates in more than 100 countries, with 2024 revenue reaching over 45 billion USD.
Approximately 25% of AZ's annual revenue is spent on R&D investment, clearly demonstrating the strategic orientation of this enterprise in innovation and development of advanced treatment methods. With its strength in research, the Group has become one of the pioneers in developing drugs to treat cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and non-communicable diseases.
As one of the most active and prominent pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam, over the past 10 years, AZ has invested more than 400 million USD in development, research and medical cooperation programs in Vietnam.
AZ has collaborated with the Ministry of Health to implement community programs with social impact such as: Healthy Lung Vietnam (improving the ability to diagnose and treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease); Young Health Programme (health education and disease prevention for adolescents); and Net Zero Healthcare initiative (supporting carbon emission reduction in the health sector, aiming for sustainable development goals).

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated AstraZeneca's reputation, long-term vision and social responsibility towards the Vietnamese market in accompanying the building of an advanced and sustainable healthcare system with many practical initiatives such as "Healthy Lungs Vietnam", "Healthy Youth", "Net Zero Healthcare".
The Deputy Prime Minister also thanked AZ for always accompanying Vietnam throughout the process of preventing, combating and responding to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Regarding research and development cooperation, the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged AZ to expand its R&D activities in Vietnam through the construction of research centers, labs, and shared infrastructure, making Vietnam the Group's "stronghold" in Southeast Asia for clinical trials, technology transfer, and training of medical experts.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister hopes that AZ will strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese universities, research institutes and hospitals to jointly conduct research, testing and commercialization of biological drugs, vaccines and advanced treatment technologies.
Vietnam has a fast-growing pharmaceutical market and its strategic location in the center of Southeast Asia is also one of the priority industries and fields attracting investment in Vietnam at the present time.
Therefore, the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged AZ to develop industrial park models and specialized innovation centers for pharmaceuticals; invest in pharmaceutical production and packaging facilities; strengthen cooperation and technology transfer to domestic partners; prioritize the application of green production models, contributing to the development of low-carbon supply chains towards the Net Zero 2050 target; promote cooperation in digital transformation of healthcare and human resource training.
The Vietnamese Government pledges to accompany and create favorable conditions for UK investors, including AZ Group, to cooperate in effective and sustainable investment and business in Vietnam./.
