Prevention of domestic violence in Nong Cong district

People actively participate in cultural and sports activities, enhance their role, and push back domestic violence.

For many years, Nong Cong town has always been a bright spot in the work of preventing and combating domestic violence in Nong Cong district. Because the Party Committee and the town government always closely follow the direction and guidance of superiors on the work of preventing and combating domestic violence, from there they develop plans and organize the implementation of the work of preventing and combating domestic violence. At the same time, they direct associations, unions, and neighborhoods to step up propaganda through meetings, club activities, groups, and teams of associations and unions; through loudspeakers, banners, and slogans.

Tran Thanh Tung, a cultural and social officer of Nong Cong town, said: “To expand the effectiveness of the sustainable family development club, the town has guided associations and neighborhoods to establish clubs according to residential clusters and alleys. Up to now, the town has 153 sustainable development clubs. Each club has from 15 to 40 participating households, meeting once every 3 months. At the club meetings, families are informed about the policies, laws of the Party and the State, regulations on family work, prevention of domestic violence, and gender equality. The club management boards regularly monitor the situation in residential areas, promptly detect and resolve conflicts, and prevent domestic violence from occurring.”

According to the assessment of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Nong Cong district, the work of preventing and combating domestic violence in the district has recorded positive changes, the number of domestic violence cases has decreased, and no serious incidents have occurred. This is the result of the active participation of Party committees, authorities, political organizations, unions and people in implementing target programs on family work, prevention and combating domestic violence. Every year, the Department of Culture, Science and Information has advised the District People's Committee to develop and issue plans to organize activities on family and prevention of domestic violence.

Realizing that propaganda plays an important role in preventing and combating domestic violence, the district has directed units and localities to promote propaganda on the Law on Prevention and Combat of Domestic Violence, gender equality, etc. At the same time, integrating propaganda on prevention and combat of domestic violence with activities of the movement to build "Cultural families", the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", "Join hands to build new rural areas" contributes to raising awareness and responsibility of the whole society in building and preserving prosperous, progressive and happy families.

In order for the propaganda work to be effective and widely spread, the district has directed localities to strengthen the establishment and replication of sustainable family clubs and domestic violence prevention and control. Up to now, the whole district has established and maintained 22 models and 94 domestic violence prevention and control groups; 256 sustainable family clubs, attracting thousands of people to participate in regular activities. With diverse forms of activities and practical content, people in residential areas regularly participate in cultural and sports activities, chat, share experiences in building happy families, raising healthy children, teaching good children, developing the economy... In addition, through club activities, the team of propagandists and family workers have grasped the situation in residential areas, the thoughts, feelings, and difficulties of women.

Along with communication through club activities and exchange meetings, Nong Cong district has also established 49 hotlines and 133 trusted addresses in the community for victims of domestic violence to get health check-ups, take refuge, talk and confide. At the same time, to improve the capacity of propaganda and mobilization for the team working on family affairs from the district to the village, every year the district has coordinated with related units to organize training courses on family affairs, prevention of domestic violence, gender equality to raise awareness, propaganda skills on prevention of domestic violence and mediation for staff working on family affairs at the grassroots level.

Deputy Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Nong Cong district, Le Thanh Binh, said: "Thanks to the implementation of many measures, focusing on coordination between units, departments, branches and organizations from the district to the village in propaganda work, most of the awareness and actions of people in the district have changed. Family members live in harmony, know how to resolve conflicts, and do not let domestic violence occur. However, in the process of implementing domestic violence work at the grassroots level, there are still many difficulties. A part of the people still do not fully understand the consequences of domestic violence and the role of the family, leading to many ethical values and family traditions being at risk of being shaken by deviant behaviors and habits."
