Parents were scammed out of money by a group impersonating Violympic

The National Violympic Organizing Committee has just received feedback from a parent about being scammed when registering their child to participate in the Violympic playground.

According to this parent, while searching for information to register her child for the exam, she accidentally accessed a fake Violympic news site. Here, she was instructed to download the Lotus application and perform "tasks" given by the bad guys, with the reason "sponsors need to increase purchases" to support the program.

Violympic Organizing Committee warns about the appearance of fake pages

The first time, the parent transferred nearly 600,000 VND and was fully refunded. The next time, the amount increased to 2.7 million VND and was also refunded. However, the third time, after transferring 7.6 million VND, the scammers informed that the transfer content was incorrect and asked for more money to be refunded.

Regarding the above case, the National Violympic Organizing Committee affirmed that this is not an isolated incident, many parents and students have become victims of similar scams.

Currently, on social networks, especially Facebook, many fake fanpages and groups of the Violympic program have appeared, enticing users to join Telegram groups, download applications of unknown origin to "do tasks" or "receive rewards", with the purpose of appropriating property.

The National Violympic Organizing Committee recommends that parents absolutely do not provide personal information, OTP codes, document images, bank accounts to any strange fanpage or group, even if they impersonate the Organizing Committee or "partners" of Violympic. In particular, do not join Telegram or Lotus groups of unknown origin, do not access strange links. Parents, teachers and students only follow information from official channels of Violympic.

Violympic is an online knowledge and intellectual playground for high school students nationwide, organized byFPT Corporation in collaboration with FPT University, under the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training. Violympic has been held annually for the past 18 years, attracting more than 4.5 million participants.
