Parents are outraged because they have to pay to check their children's test scores.

The incident happened at the Experimental Middle School of An Duong District, Ba Trung City (Sichuan, China). Accordingly, parents will have to pay to buy an app to look up their children's exam scores if they want to know.

The fee for using the "Good Score" app - a software to check students' test scores and errors in their papers - is 30 yuan/term (100,000 VND). After paying, the software is automatically installed on the phone for parents to check their children's test scores.

According to regulations issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education, schools must make it easy for students and parents to know their test scores, academic rankings, grades and other relevant information. However, schools are not allowed to make this information public online without the consent of students and parents.

The school's practice of charging for exam score checks is a violation of the country's Ministry of Education regulations. Any information related to students is not allowed to be turned into services that require parents to pay for. The school's arbitrary charging behavior has been criticized by many people.

"Why do parents have to pay to buy an app to know their child's test scores? This is an unreasonable request from the school," one parent expressed.

Another parent said: "I support the school in protecting personal information and respecting the privacy of scores to reduce the pressure of studying and comparison for students through the score checking app. But the school taking advantage of this to force parents to pay money is wrong and needs to be condemned."

The prohibition of publicizing the test scores of primary and secondary school students according to the regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education means that schools do not disclose this information within the entire school, grade and class, to serve the purpose of comparison between individuals. However, schools must still be responsible and create favorable conditions for parents to grasp their children's learning information.

Others say that even if the app is used, schools will have to buy it, instead of letting the commercial operator work directly with parents. Because of the misunderstanding of the Ministry of Education's regulation on not publicizing exam scores, it has created an opportunity for the provision of unreasonable paid services that exist within the school.

Regarding conflicting opinions regarding parents having to pay service fees if they want their children's exam scores, a representative of the An Duong district education department confirmed the incident.

According to regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, schools are not allowed to force or suggest parents and students to buy software and learning support materials. In response to the above violations, the Principal of the Experimental Middle School of An Duong District was disciplined.

At the same time, a representative of the local education department also said that they had asked the school to terminate the contract with the app company "Good Score" and refund all costs to parents.
