According to Mr. Cuong, about 10 buffaloes have died, appearing from mid-September 2024 until now. Through monitoring and inspection, the symptoms of these sick buffaloes are mostly not eating, breathing heavily, bloating, foaming at the mouth and then rolling over and dying.

The commune authorities reported to the district authorities, and coordinated and mobilized veterinary forces to investigate the cause; together with other forces, quickly suppressed the epidemic. Initially, the cause of the death of many buffaloes was determined to be anthrax.

Mr. Pham Van Dao, Deputy Head of the District Agriculture and Rural Development Department, said that in Loc Tien commune, there are more than 1,000 buffaloes, of which about 98% have been vaccinated. The buffaloes that died were mainly released by people in the forest, not herded and not vaccinated.

“After detecting the epidemic, the department provided disinfectants to treat and prevent the spread of the epidemic in Loc Tien commune. Currently, the district People's Committee is also issuing a second vaccination plan according to the plan of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, not only for anthrax but also other diseases,” said Mr. Dao.

According to Mr. Cuong, currently, all buffaloes and cows in Loc Tien commune have been vaccinated against anthrax and the local government has also stepped up propaganda so that people do not slaughter or sell sick buffaloes to prevent the disease from spreading further.
