Launching of Ngu My Thanh - Con Toc plastic reduction tourist destination

Ngu My Thanh - Con Toc is located on the edge of Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon, the largest lagoon system in Southeast Asia. The development of a plastic reduction model in Ngu My Thanh - Con Toc not only contributes to preserving the natural landscape and local livelihoods, but also demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental protection, towards developing green tourism.

With the support of the Department of Tourism, TVA Project and local authorities, 8 tourism service businesses in Quang Loi have committed to implementing specific measures to reduce plastic waste in their business operations. The pioneering establishments include: Tam Giang Quang Loi Community Service Tourism Cooperative, Con Toc Restaurant, Minh Cuc Restaurant, Tam Giang Seafood World Restaurant, Ly Huong Restaurant, Tam Giang Hoi Quan Restaurant, Huong Binh Restaurant and Quynh Nhu Restaurant.

To support the transition, the TVA Project has provided initial equipment such as glass water bottles, water filters, plastic reduction facility identification boards, waste sorting bins, etc. to increase the use of environmentally friendly items to replace single-use plastics in restaurants and tours; limit plastic bags, use environmentally friendly packaging and items such as cloth bags and personal bags.

In addition, a highlight in the lagoon area is the use of traditional bamboo trays to serve dishes, both reducing waste and increasing the local experience for visitors. The "Green House" system is arranged at Con Toc Park and the lagoon area to collect recyclable waste, raising awareness of classification and environmental protection among residents and visitors.

Also on this occasion, Hue College of Tourism coordinated with travel agencies to organize experiential tours at Ngu My Thanh - Con Toc with a focus on reducing plastic waste. When participating in the tour, visitors were introduced to plastic reduction activities at 8 local committed facilities, encouraged to use personal water bottles instead of plastic bottled water and minimize the use of nylon bags and single-use plastic items. In particular, the tour also includes a boat tour of the lagoon with a plastic reduction model, helping visitors experience the beauty of the river and raise awareness of environmental protection.
