Women participate in environmental protection

Recently, the Women's Union of Tan An City , Long An Province has implemented many practical and effective models, contributing to raising awareness and forming green living habits among members, women and the community.

Women's Union at all levels of Tan An City actively plants flowers and trees in the locality.

In 2022, Tan An City Women's Union deployed the Friendly Environment - Volunteer Sharing model, piloted in wards 4 and 6, ward 1, and has now been expanded to the remaining 13 communes and wards with 19 operating points and more than 230 regular participants.

The highlight of the model is to utilize recycled waste such as paper, plastic bottles, beer cans, etc. to raise funds to support poor households in paying garbage collection fees or to carry out charity activities . Fundraising activities from recycled waste have supported 556 students and children in difficult circumstances with a total amount of more than 15 million VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc (Quarter 4, Ward 1, Tan An City) shared: "Every month, my neighbors and I collect a few dozen kilograms of scrap, sell it for a little money and contribute it to a fund to support people in difficult circumstances."

In 2023, Tan An City Women's Union continued to implement the model of Composting household waste into organic fertilizer at HVPN households in An Vinh Ngai commune, attracting 20 households to participate.

For recyclable and reusable waste, households collect and classify it for sale to raise funds. Organic waste is instructed to be composted into fertilizer for agricultural production, helping to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.

The Association supports each household with a compost bin, a trash container and a bag of Trichoderma fertilizer; at the same time, organizes training on classifying and treating organic waste according to a 5-step process. Over the implementation period, the model has initially brought positive results.

At the same time, the Association coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to deploy and present 15 Green Houses to 14 Women's Unions of communes and wards. The Association directly manages 8 more Green Houses located at schools, parks, the City Party Committee and the Public Administration Center of Tan An City.

With the spirit of “Each PN - a green tree”, “Each Association facility - a green construction ”, the Association at all levels mobilizes members to plant flowers and green trees. Up to now, 5,794 members have participated in planting more than 6,500 flowers and green trees of all kinds on many roads and residential areas.

Chairwoman of the Tan An City Women's Union - Huynh Thi Diem Le said: "In the coming time, the Union will continue to direct the Union's branches to maintain and improve the quality of the models; at the same time, coordinate to organize training courses and competitions on environmental protection to improve propaganda and mobilization skills in the Union"./.
