Thanh Thoi A women develop '1 + 1' economic model

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nghi, Tan Phong hamlet, Thanh Thoi A commune prepares materials for making coconut fiber.

Thanh Thoi A Commune Women's Union has 6 branches and 45 traditional women's association groups, 3 women's association groups in production establishments, 1 religious women's association group, with 2,320 members. Currently, the whole commune has 38 poor households headed by women. Tan Phong Hamlet Women's Union has 8 women's association groups, 450 members, 5 poor households headed by women. Women's Association Group No. 5, Tan Phong Hamlet has 43 members, 1 household in difficult circumstances headed by a woman and is elderly.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nghi, 39 years old, residing in Self-managed People's Group No. 18, Tan Phong Hamlet, said: “In the past, my family's circumstances were extremely difficult. For more than 5 years, I have been working at home receiving orders to process plastic flower products and coconut fiber spinning with an income of 70 - 80 thousand VND/day, not enough to take care of my family. In early 2024, I received support from the local PN with nearly 30 million VND and I "managed" more money to invest in 1 more coconut fiber spinning machine, now I have 3 machines, contributing to increasing production output and creating a stable income of 300 - 400 thousand VND/day. By the end of 2024, my family has escaped poverty status".

The head of the Women's Association of Tan Phong Hamlet, To Thi Ri, said that the members of the association highly agreed on implementing the "1 + 1" model through forms such as: transferring science and technology, supporting seedlings or providing capital for members and women in difficulty in the locality. After 1 year of implementation, the association has helped 2 members and women escape poverty. To date, 4/8 women's association groups have established a mutual support fund for local members and women, with a total capital of more than 100 million VND.

Head of Women's Union Group No. 5, Tan Phong Hamlet, Nguyen Thi Ut, shared: "Currently, the group has built a Mutual Support Fund of more than 60 million VND, with 28 members participating, each member contributes 200,000 VND/month, supporting rotation (1 member/month). In particular, the group has extracted 15 million VND from the Mutual Support Fund for 1 member with difficult economic circumstances to invest effectively in raising cows and has escaped poverty sustainably for 2 years now."

According to the President of the Women's Union of Thanh Thoi A Commune, Dang Thi Ngoc Dung, in 2024, the association will develop a plan and pilot the model at the Women's Union of Tan Phong Hamlet. Accordingly, 1 member with good economic conditions will support 1 member with difficult circumstances, 1 good women's union group will accompany 1 weak women's union group. Up to now, the "1 + 1" model implemented by the association has helped 45 members with difficult economic circumstances to improve their lives, with a total cost of more than 315 million VND. In the future, the association will replicate the model to 6/6 women's unions in the hamlet.
