According to a VNA reporter in Phnom Penh, more than a month before the general election on July 23, the Royal Government of Cambodia has decided to allow workers, civil servants and laborers in the country to have 3 days off (from July 22-24) to vote for members of the 7th National Assembly .
In a document issued on June 3, the Office of the Cabinet of the Royal Government of Cambodia informed the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Labor of this country about the above holiday schedule.
Accordingly, the holiday schedule is implemented according to the recommendation of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, affirming that workers and laborers will still be paid during the holiday; at the same time, requesting the Ministry of Labor of this country to issue a document guiding factories and businesses on the implementation of the above policy.
The 2023 general election process in Cambodia is proceeding as scheduled. On May 29, the National Election Committee (NEC) held a drawing ceremony to rank 18 political parties participating in the country's general election in July.
According to the draw results, the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) ranked 18th out of 18 political parties participating in the election. The remaining political parties, in order from 1 to 17, are the Honeycomb Social Democratic Party (BSDP); Khmer is One; Cambodian Nationality; Khmer National Unity (KNUP); Democratic Power (DPP); Peasants; Women for Women; Khmer Out of Poverty; FUNCINPEC; Rule of Law (DP); Grassroots Democracy; People's Aspirations; Khmer Economic Development; Khmer National Unity; Khmer Development (KCP); Cambodian Youth (CYP) and Cambodian Indigenous Democratic Party.
Previously, the NEC pledged to work closely with relevant authorities to maintain security and public order ahead of the upcoming general election.
In a directive issued in mid-May, the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism requested karaoke establishments, bars, discos, nightclubs, etc. across the country to temporarily suspend operations on July 22-23 to ensure the election goes smoothly.
Businesses operating in the tourism sector can provide food and beverage services but must temporarily stop selling alcohol during this time.
Cambodia holds general elections every five years. The most recent election was held on July 29, 2018.
