Poverty reduction nucleus
In Phuoc Chanh commune, the model of raising indigenous black pigs led by women has brought about remarkable results. For the family of Ms. Ho Thi Suong (village 1, Phuoc Chanh commune), in 2023, she was supported with 5 indigenous black pigs with a budget of 23 million VND, in return for a request to build a solid barn. Thanks to good care, her herd of pigs increased to more than 20 after a year. Combining wine making, farming and raising livestock, her family has escaped poverty.
“The model helped me start approaching livestock farming techniques, taking advantage of food sources, and combining the use of livestock waste as fertilizer. From a small initial capital, the program helped me have a good start and gradually improve. The most important thing is that I have more determination to produce, have a stable income and continue to invest and expand,” Ms. Suong shared.
Currently, 10 women's households in Phuoc Chanh participating in this model have also achieved positive results, contributing to helping the commune complete the income criteria in the new rural program in 2024.
Mr. Ho Van Huy - Chairman of Phuoc Chanh Commune People's Committee, said that in addition to raising black pigs, the commune also implemented a model of growing seedless lemons, economic forests and raising breeding cows. The linkage models help people share techniques, have their products consumed, thereby ensuring production and increasing income. Support from the Provincial Ethnic Minorities Committee and local authorities has created motivation for these models to be effective.
In Phuoc Nang commune, the 3B cow farming model according to the chain linkage implemented by Thinh Vuong Agricultural Cooperative since February 2024 has brought much hope to 13 households.
With a total budget of 2.5 billion VND, of which 1.7 billion VND comes from the national target program, the project provides breeding cows, feed, breeding techniques and ensures output. Ms. Luong Thi Thoi (village 2) said that the herd of cows is growing well thanks to the family being guided on techniques, supported with elephant grass seeds and vaccines to prevent cow diseases.
“Previously, when people raised native cows, the breed was not carefully selected, mainly based on existing experience. The food source was not proactive, plus they did not know how to use vaccines to prevent some common diseases. Although they raised a lot, the rate of death, illness, and loss was high. Thanks to the association, people raised cows with the right techniques, and the results were very visible,” said Ms. Thoi.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Hien (village 3, Phuoc Nang commune) highly appreciated the support of the cooperative. According to Mr. Hien, households share experiences with each other, the cooperative regularly checks and commits to buying cows at good prices. This helps local people confidently expand livestock farming.
During the process of raising 3B cows, Phuoc Son district also sent veterinary staff to support vaccination, provide guidance on safe animal husbandry, help Gie Trieng people change their habits, control diseases and protect the environment. These efforts have encouraged many households to boldly invest and expand their production scale.
Replicating the model
According to statistics, Phuoc Son district currently has 2 3B cow breeding models, 5 breeding cow breeding models and dozens of indigenous black pig breeding models according to the chain.

These models are the nucleus for the district to replicate in 2025 and the following years. To achieve the goal of escaping poverty by the end of 2025, the district is promoting projects to support livelihoods, link production, business, tourism and startups.
Mr. Ho Cong Diem - Vice Chairman of Phuoc Son District People's Committee said that sustainable poverty reduction is one of the important and continuous political tasks that has been focused on for many years.
“The district will continue to promote trade, connect markets, and encourage links between poor households and cooperatives and businesses. We prioritize value chain linkage models, helping people gradually change old production practices, approach new methods with more appropriate scales, and create leverage to stimulate people to escape poverty and become rich together,” said Mr. Ho Cong Diem.
The success of the linkage models in Phuoc Son lies not only in economic value, but also in the change in thinking of the highland people. By sharing experiences, applying new techniques, and ensuring stable output, these models have created a strong motivation for people to rise up. With the support of the government, cooperatives and the community, Phuoc Son is gradually realizing the goal of sustainable poverty reduction.
