Currently, the province has announced and put into operation, managed and maintained 23 inland waterways with a length of 761.5km. Of which, 8 central inland waterways are 213km long and 15 local inland waterways are 548.5km long. To ensure order and traffic safety on waterways, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee regularly coordinates with the waterway police force and localities to propagate and disseminate laws on inland waterway traffic safety to people and vehicle owners in localities with rivers, wharves and tourist attractions.

Along with that, widely implement the campaign to build the movement "Traffic culture with peaceful rivers" and prevent and combat child drowning in localities in the province. Every year, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has developed a plan and established an interdisciplinary inspection team to inspect the work of ensuring order and safety of inland waterways before the rainy and stormy season in localities with inland waterways, focusing on areas at risk of losing waterway traffic safety such as ferry terminals, inland waterway terminals, areas with many residents living along the river... Thereby, promptly instructing and reminding people of cases at risk of losing waterway traffic safety. At the same time, requiring vehicle owners to fully equip life-saving buoyancy devices on their vehicles, and people participating in waterway traffic must wear life jackets and hold buoys when participating in waterway traffic. During holidays, Tet, festival season, and storm season, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has issued documents directing relevant agencies, units, and People's Committees of localities to strengthen the work of ensuring order and traffic safety on inland waterways. Thanks to that, in recent years, order and traffic safety on the province's waterways have been maintained stably, safely, and without traffic accidents.

As the core force in ensuring order and traffic safety on waterways, the waterway police force coordinates with localities, police forces of communes, wards and towns to regularly inspect, review and strictly manage the operations of wharves and passenger vehicles across and along rivers and lakes... The forces also resolutely suspend operations of wharves and vehicles that do not ensure safety standards during the rainy and stormy season. In the first 4 months of 2025, the waterway police force inspected the rivers through the districts of Vinh Loc, Cam Thuy, Yen Dinh, Nga Son, Hau Loc, Ha Trung, Hoang Hoa, Nghi Son town... Thereby, 11 cases of administrative violations of waterway traffic safety were detected and handled.

According to statistics from the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, there are currently 950 inland waterway vehicles operating on rivers and large lakes in the province. By April 2025, the total number of inland waterway vehicles registered and inspected in the province reached 68.2%. In order to strictly manage vehicles participating in waterway traffic, according to the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, in the coming time, the unit will coordinate with member agencies to organize inspections of passenger vehicles across rivers, vehicles operating at mines, loading and unloading docks and participating in the transportation of goods operating on all inland waterways of the province.

The waterway police force has increased inspection and control on inland waterways and hydroelectric reservoirs and strictly handled violations such as vehicles without registration certificates, without technical safety and environmental protection certificates; transporting goods beyond the safe waterline mark, carrying more people than the prescribed number; crew members and vehicle operators without professional certificates as prescribed; passengers not wearing life jackets when traveling by boat; violating regulations on alcohol concentration... Thereby, contributing to raising the awareness of vehicle owners in ensuring the safety of people's lives and property when participating in waterway traffic.
