Summer vacation is a precious time for students to rest, recharge and develop comprehensively. Without proper management, summer can also become a risky “gap”. Collaboration between schools, families and local authorities in managing and organizing summer activities for students is an urgent requirement.

The school is not left out.

Summer vacation is a time for students to rest and relax after a stressful school year. However, if not well managed and oriented, this is also a time that poses many potential risks to safety, ethics, health and living habits.

The school has many exciting activities for students during the summer.

In order to strengthen the management of students during the summer, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 61/CD-TTg dated May 10, 2025, requiring increased coordination between schools and families to create conditions for children and students to have fun, participate in cultural and artistic activities, physical training, and life skills during the summer; manage children and students, and prevent accidents, injuries, and drowning.

The dispatch also clearly stated: Clarifying the responsibilities of agencies, departments, branches, schools and families in ensuring the safety of children during the summer vacation; increasing investment in facilities so that students can participate in physical activities, sports ; practicing life skills, learning foreign languages, arts, swimming, etc.

In preparation for this year's summer vacation, the Hanoi Departmentof Education and Training has issued a plan for organizing summer activities, emphasizing the role of coordination between schools, localities, and families in organizing and ensuring safety for students during the summer.

Many schools in Hanoi have proactively developed suitable summer plans. Although they are not teaching, schools still play a key role in supporting, guiding and creating a positive environment for students. Many schools have plans to open their doors to welcome students to the library to read books or play sports…

According to teacher Vu Thi Huong Lan, Principal of Ly Thuong Kiet High School (Long Bien District), in the parent meeting to summarize the 2024-2025 school year, homeroom teachers of each class reminded parents to pay attention and remind their children to comply with the Traffic Law and prevent drowning. During the summer, the school will arrange for students to come to school 1-2 sessions per month to participate in summer activities. Depending on the specific situation and wishes of the students, they can practice folk dancing, play sports, participate in cultural exchanges, etc.

In order for students to have a complete, stress-free summer vacation, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires schools to absolutely not organize extra teaching or learning during the summer in any form; not organize pre-program teaching; review, practice exams, tests, and surveys to arrange classes for the 2025-2026 school year.

Located in an area with many rivers and lakes, schools in Chuong My district regularly instruct students to recognize dangerous areas such as ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, construction sites, etc. and remind them to absolutely not go near or bathe there.

“The school works closely with families to manage and educate students during the summer, and also encourages parents to create conditions for their children to participate in local summer activities such as swimming classes, life skills clubs or community activities,” said teacher Pham Thi Thu Ha, Principal of Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School (Chuong My district).

Family and community involvement

To effectively manage students during the summer, cooperation between families and the community is an indispensable factor. Many residential groups in Hanoi have proactively developed plans to organize cultural, sports and skills activities for children in the area.

On May 28, residents of residential group No. 8, Thach Ban ward (Long Bien district) received a notice from the head of the residential group about organizing a free dance class for children, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day, starting from June 1 to July 30, 2025. The notice also clearly stated the class location, and encouraged families to register their children to participate in order to improve their physical fitness as well as create a joyful atmosphere for students during the summer.

The “Weekend Playground” model of residential group No. 5, Trung Tu ward (Dong Da district) has also become a habit of children in this area for many years. Children are guided to play tug of war, jump rope, color, read books - simple activities but bring great spiritual value.

Summer student management requires the cooperation of schools, families and localities.

Parents also play a central role in establishing a scientific lifestyle for their children. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, parent of an 8th grade student at Thanh Cong Secondary School (Ba Dinh District), shared: “The family guides their children to create a daily schedule for the summer vacation, in which priority is given to time for sports practice, reading, housework and participating in local summer activities. I will also try to spend time supervising my children in implementing that schedule, helping them to increase communication and not letting them ‘get lost’ in electronic devices.”

However, some parents expressed their wish that public schools would open more widely during the summer. Regarding this content, information from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the unit has issued a document encouraging schools to create conditions for students to use the unit's facilities such as libraries, gyms, stadiums, swimming pools, etc. so that students can review, read books, look up documents, practice and play. Some primary schools in the inner city have informed parents about organizing clubs at school such as physical development, art, life skills, etc.

The Prime Minister's telegram is not only an administrative directive, but also a strong reminder of the responsibility of the whole society towards future generations. A safe, healthy and rewarding summer for students cannot be achieved by just one side - but requires the joint efforts of schools, families and the community.
