Specifically, the Vietnamese team lost to Thailand in the AFF Cup final, which took place in early 2023. By mid-year, the U23 Vietnam team was eliminated in the semi-finals of the men's football event of the 32nd SEA Games against Indonesia.

Therefore, although Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, Tien Linh, Hung Dung, and Dang Van Lam are all on the nomination list, there is no outstanding star on this list.

This year, in addition to the titles (QBV), Silver Ball (QBB), Bronze Ball (QBĐ) for men, the Organizing Committee (OC) also awarded the Golden Ball, Silver Ball and Women's Golden Ball. In addition, the Organizing Committee also honored the best young male player, best female player, best foreign player and best futsal player.

This year, the Organizing Committee will award an additional award called the Dedication Award to male and female players who have made outstanding contributions to Vietnamese football over the years.

It is expected that the 2023 Golden Ball title will be awarded in early 2024. Before that, the Organizing Committee will compile votes from sports reporters and football experts in December this year.
