Quang Nam determined to improve Green Index

Developing green tourism, circular economy... is the choice of Quang Nam.

Quang Nam authorities have launched a local PGI plan to be in the top 20 provinces and cities and the top 5 in the Central Coast region. According to this plan, the three indicators “Minimizing pollution and natural disasters, climate change”, “Role of provincial authorities in promoting green practices in enterprises” and “Encouraging policies and services to support enterprises in “greening” production and business models” will strive to achieve rankings in the group of 20-30 provinces and cities. The index “Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations” will maintain its ranking in groups 1-5.

According to Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung, the province will innovate mechanisms and policies to be open and innovative in supporting green investment, greening production and consumption, developing green enterprises, creating differences, in order to improve the investment and business environment. Quang Nam will create favorable and transparent conditions to support the community and enterprises, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.

The solution to improve the Green Index is implemented through greening production, trade, services, consumption, attracting investment, developing enterprises in the direction of green economy, circular economy. Planning and developing industrial parks and urban areas in an ecological direction.

Will develop and apply scientific and technological advances, environmentally friendly technologies. Strengthen solutions for resource management, environmental protection, natural disaster prevention and mitigation, and climate change response.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung requested departments, branches and sectors, depending on their functions, to develop detailed plans to improve the scores of indicators of each component index. An important thing is to periodically evaluate to have appropriate solutions, ensuring the goal of efficiency, sustainability, and balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Departments, branches, sectors and localities must proactively study the indicators of PGI, identify areas that need improvement, propose specific measures and actions, study experiences and good practices of localities to develop and complete improvement plans, improve rankings and increase scores of each indicator and component index of PGI and be responsible for the results.

This improvement plan must be widely communicated to every cadre, civil servant, employee, and worker of each agency or unit. All must proactively implement it, in accordance with reality, to improve the quality of environmental management and orient green growth.

Mr. Dau Anh Tuan - Deputy General Secretary of VCCI said that green growth and circular economy are no longer options but inevitable trends. When the PGI score improves, it means better environmental quality and improved health and safety of the local community. Green growth has been clearly identified in the local development strategy. This plan is a measure and milestone for action.

However, an important policy and plan requires the initiative and cooperation of the community and businesses, creating sustainability in the investment decision-making process, orienting towards more green and environmentally friendly projects. The call for investment attraction needs to be "green", with better quality and high technology to bring better added value. Credit capital also needs to be prioritized for green projects and environmental protection projects.
