(gialai.gov.vn) - On the morning of November 9, Vice Chairman of Lam Hai Giang Provincial People's Committee inspected the recovery of the consequences of storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi) at the following schools: Nhon Thanh Secondary School (An Nhon Bac Ward), Nhon Hanh Secondary School (An Nhon Bac Ward), Nhon An Secondary School (An Nhon Dong Ward) and Nhon Hau Secondary School (An Nhon Ward). Also present were representatives of the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Construction and leaders of relevant localities.

At educational institutions, school administrators reported on the damage and the work to overcome the consequences of storm No. 13, with the aim of bringing students back to school on November 10.

According to records, storm No. 13 damaged many items at educational facilities in the province such as: damaged roofs, damaged ceilings, broken purlins, collapsed fences, gates, garages, damaged electrical systems, etc. Preliminary estimates show that the damage to the entire education sector is about 100 billion VND.

Vice Chairman of Lam Hai Giang Provincial People's Committee requested that the locality must have a plan to strengthen the infrastructure of Nhon Hanh Secondary School.

Vice Chairman of Lam Hai Giang Provincial People's Committee said that immediately after the storm, the Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Education and Training, Chairmen of the People's Committees of localities to focus on directing, proactively using the budget reserve and mobilizing other legal resources to immediately repair damaged educational facilities; clean up the environment, ensuring that units return to normal operation from November 10, 2025; at the same time, propose to support additional forces to implement the overcoming of consequences (if any) at the units.

Through the on-site inspection, Vice Chairman of Lam Hai Giang Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the proactive spirit of educational establishments and local authorities in responding to and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. At the same time, he requested that localities continue to support educational establishments in the area to repair and ensure essential facilities and equipment directly serving teaching and learning activities, bringing schools back to normal operation tomorrow. Particularly for educational establishments that have been severely damaged and have not yet ensured safety for teaching and learning, the time for students to return to school will be postponed.

In the long term, Vice Chairman of Lam Hai Giang Provincial People's Committee suggested that localities, especially those regularly affected by storms and floods, strengthen the management and use of public facilities; review all educational facilities to have plans to invest in upgrading or building new ones, ensuring that they both meet teaching and learning requirements and are qualified to respond to natural disasters. At the same time, regular maintenance is needed to extend the "lifespan" of school buildings.
