Quang Nam submits to the Prime Minister about investing in Chu Lai airport

According to Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung, the Chu Lai Airport Project has been approved by the Prime Minister for investment in the form of PPP and assigned the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee to promptly and proactively implement documents and procedures to call for and attract investment and exploitation.

Currently, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province is coordinating with the Ministry of Construction and relevant agencies and units to speed up the progress of establishing, appraising, and submitting for approval the Chu Lai Airport Construction Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050.

In parallel, coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense , the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Ministry of Finance to measure, set up markers, and demarcate boundaries to submit to competent authorities to hand over the land area for socio-economic development to Quang Nam province.

Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee is also directing the simultaneous implementation of research steps, speeding up the progress of preparing a pre-feasibility study report so that it can be submitted for appraisal and approval immediately after the Construction Plan is approved.

Due to the nature of Chu Lai Airport being managed by many units, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and assigned the task to the locality as the competent authority to develop a pre-feasibility study report and submit it to the competent authority to decide on the investment policy of Chu Lai Airport project in accordance with the provisions of law on investment under the PPP method.

According to the Quang Nam Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, Quang Nam is oriented to invest in and build Chu Lai International Airport with a scale of 4F airport. The estimated capacity is about 10 million passengers/year by 2030, and about 30 million passengers/year by 2050. In the first phase, the total capital mobilization demand for Chu Lai Airport is about 11,000 billion VND, excluding site clearance costs.

Chu Lai Airport will become an international aviation industry and service center with passenger and cargo transportation and aviation logistics activities; a flight training and coaching center; a center for aircraft repair and maintenance, and the production of aviation components; linked with duty-free zones and high-tech industrial zones, forming a center for the production, processing, and processing of high-tech, high-value products, and air import and export.

Previously, in February 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected and worked with Quang Nam province on Chu Lai airport. According to the Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, Sovico Group and VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company worked with Quang Nam province leaders to propose investment in Chu Lai International Airport.

Through the report, the Prime Minister requested the construction of Chu Lai airport level 4F (the highest level in the hierarchy of the International Civil Aviation Organization) and planning, urban development and airport ecosystem. Quang Nam province is assigned as the competent authority to call for investors, complete procedures in the first 6 months of 2025 and complete the investment and construction of this airport for dual-use exploitation within 2 years.
