Quang Nam requests explanation on the construction of a new Dien Ngoc Hero Monument

On the afternoon of August 6, the Office of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province announced that Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung had just sent an official dispatch requesting the People's Committee of Dien Ban town to explain and supplement information on the policy of dismantling and investing in the project to upgrade the Dien Ngoc Hero Monument (in Ngoc Binh block, Dien Ngoc ward, Dien Ban town).

Notably, Mr. Dung requested to clarify the comment that "the Dien Ngoc Hero Monument has degraded" and "its scale is no longer suitable for the surrounding landscape and infrastructure"; consider organizing a referendum to gain consensus and unity in dismantling the old monument and investing in building a new monument.

In addition, it is necessary to assess the ability to ensure capital sources and balance capital to implement the project from the town budget, and appropriate investment time to synthesize and send to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism before August 10, to advise the Provincial People's Committee to consider and resolve.

The leaders of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee also requested the above department to be responsible for reviewing the explanations of the Dien Ban Town People's Committee related to the dismantling policy and project investment, synthesizing and reporting to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and resolution.

Previously, Dien Ban Town People's Committee had sent a proposal to Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee on the investment policy for the project to upgrade the Dien Ngoc Hero Monument.

According to the People's Committee of Dien Ban Town, the monument is currently degraded and its scale is no longer suitable for the surrounding landscape and urban infrastructure, which is increasingly developing. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in upgrading to promote the great cultural and historical values ​​and significance of the project.

Specifically, the old monument and related current items will be dismantled; the monument grounds will be upgraded and renovated; a new monument block and two relief panels behind will be built. At the same time, a new platform between the two relief panels will be built to summarize the battle and record the names of the brave soldiers; new auxiliary works such as reception and exhibition houses, toilets, water supply and drainage systems, lighting, and other items will be built...

The total investment is expected to be about 88 billion VND from the local budget. Project progress, investment procedure preparation time from 2024-2025, implementation time from 2025-2026.

The Dien Ngoc Heroes Monument was invested in and built by the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee in 2005, with a total cost of over 1.5 billion VND. The project has a total area of ​​over 9,000 square meters, to commemorate the feats and sacrifices of 7 Dien Ngoc heroes in the battle against the US imperialists and their henchmen in the area of ​​Gieng Nha Nhi in 1962.
