Quang Ninh promotes sustainable gender equality

In recent times, measures to promote gender equality in Quang Ninh have been actively implemented, creating clear changes.

Gender equality is an important part of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, of which Vietnam is a member. Actions for gender equality contribute to ensuring human rights for all women in society. Today, women have more and more opportunities to assert themselves, participate in many leadership positions, and make great contributions to politics , socio-economics, family and community.

Identifying gender equality as an important task, in recent years, Quang Ninh Party Committees and authorities have implemented many practical activities, creating favorable conditions for women and girls to develop their capacity for the development of the community. Thereby, gradually narrowing the gender gap, enhancing the position and role of women in all areas of social life and family.

The province pays attention to the planning of female cadres, creating conditions for female cadres to have the opportunity to be appointed to leadership positions. As of the second quarter of 2023, there were 71/402 female cadres under the management of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, accounting for 17.66%. In the past two terms, the proportion of female cadres participating in Party committees and authorities at all levels, as delegates of the Provincial People's Council, holding key leadership positions of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and the Provincial National Assembly Delegation has increased. In the 2015-2020 term, female grassroots Party committees accounted for 25.2%, district level 17.85%, provincial level 18.8%; in the 2020-2025 term, female grassroots Party committees accounted for 29.3%, district level 22%, provincial level 16.7%. Female delegates of the Provincial People's Council for the 2016-2021 term account for 33.33%, for the 2021-2026 term account for 40.91%, higher than the Central regulations...

In addition, Quang Ninh province also focuses on improving the capacity of officials working on gender equality. In 2022, all levels and sectors of the province organized nearly 200 seminars and training conferences for over 15,715 civil servants and officials working on gender equality at all levels, cultural and social officials, and People's Council delegates at all levels. The dissemination, popularization andeducation of laws on gender equality and prevention and response to gender-based violence continued to be promoted. In 2022, all levels and sectors of the province organized over 1,000 propaganda conferences in various forms such as: competitions, art performances, direct propaganda for over 50,000 officials and people in the province.

Promoting the role of the standing agency in the field of gender equality, in 2023, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs will continue to advise the Provincial People's Committee to coordinate with the United Nations Population Fund to effectively implement the One-stop Service Center project to support victims of gender-based violence - Anh Duong House; coordinate with UNICEF to sponsor the implementation of the Parenting for Comprehensive Early Childhood Development (IECD) project in 3 communes and wards of Dong Trieu Town.

The Department also continues to maintain and implement many effective models and activities to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. Notably, there are 11 models on preventing and combating gender-based violence in 10 districts, towns and cities; the model of a safe and friendly city, preventing harassment and sexual abuse of women and children in public places in Ha Lam ward (Ha Long city)...

In November 2023, many localities in the province organized the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence. The province launched the program of action for gender equality in Mong Cai City on November 15 and in Dong Mai Industrial Park (Quang Yen Town) on November 10.

Currently, the total number of workers working in the province is 664,000 people, of which about 301,700 are female, accounting for 45.44% of the workforce. In industrial zones in the province, the female workforce also accounts for the majority, up to 61.4%. That affirms the position and role of women in Quang Ninh province in all fields of politics, economics, culture, education, health...

The propaganda programs call on all levels, sectors, organizations, localities, units, enterprises, educational institutions, and medical facilities in the province to continue to pay attention to promoting the dissemination, propaganda, and education of social security policies, gender equality, and prevention and response to gender-based violence. In addition, strengthen education on knowledge and skills to protect and prevent violence against women and children, family members, people working in gender equality and children.

In particular, strengthen the implementation of measures to reduce and eventually end violence and abuse against women and children; promote prevention, detection and containment, and timely handling of cases of violence and abuse against women and children. Along with that, promote the mobilization of resources, enhance the socialization of communication activities and support for women and children in difficult circumstances, victims of abuse, trafficking, and exploitation; strengthen forms of inspection on gender equality and for the advancement of women in agencies, units, and localities.
