The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Central Party Executive Committee: Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang, along with leaders of central ministries and branches, leaders of the two provinces of Quang Tri - Hung Yen , relatives of martyrs, former youth volunteers and a large number of people from Long Dai village.
During the years of the resistance war against the US, Long Dai Ferry Terminal II was a vital traffic hub, connecting the Northern rear with the Southern battlefield. Despite the rain of bombs and bullets, the youth volunteer force, militia, and engineers steadfastly held their ground, rescuing people, transporting goods, and ensuring support. In September 1972, 16 soldiers of Company C130 (from Hung Yen) heroically fell while on duty, leaving behind an immortal heroic epic.
To pay tribute and affirm the historical value, the project to renovate Long Dai Ferry Terminal II with the highlight being the 16-meter-high Monument of 16 rice ears placed on a star-shaped pedestal, symbolizing the 16 youth volunteers who sacrificed their lives. In addition, the relic site also has a house of celebration - documentation, a boat dock, synchronous infrastructure and modern equipment for display and research.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam emphasized: The inauguration and renovation of Long Dai Ferry Terminal II is not only an act of deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs, but also a message affirming the determination to preserve and promote revolutionary traditions. This will be a red address, a vibrant educational space for today's and future generations to nurture national pride and the will to contribute to the Fatherland.
The project is a testament to the morality of "remembering the source of the water you drink", demonstrating the locality's determination to preserve and promote the historical relic values of Quang Tri province.
