On April 15, Mr. Ho Quang Buu - Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee - signed an official dispatch to the Ministry of Transport requesting the implementation of solutions to ensure traffic safety on National Highway 14D.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, currently every day there are about 250 ore-carrying trucks (vehicles with over 5 axles, total weight of about 48 tons) from Laos to Vietnam through the Nam Giang international border gate.

This type of truck travels every day, so Highway 14D quickly deteriorates, making maintenance to ensure traffic safety very difficult, exceeding the prescribed budget for road maintenance.
In addition, on the route there are 10 small, narrow curves that have not been renovated, making it difficult for tractor-trailers to travel, often falling into longitudinal ditches and causing traffic jams at these locations.
Currently, National Highway 4D has peeled off most of its asphalt surface, leaving only gravel, causing a lot of dust, polluting the environment, affecting the lives of people in 5 highland communes of Nam Giang district.

With the high traffic volume exceeding the allowable traffic volume, the road is quickly damaged.
The continuous traffic congestion has caused difficulties for vehicles, affecting trade, travel and the lives of people in Nam Giang district.
The Department of Transport of Quang Nam province is managing regular maintenance, patching potholes with plastic or aggregate; adding more signs, warning signs of danger, and damaged roads; the budget has been allocated for annual implementation of about 4 billion VND and periodic repairs.
"In 2024, there will be 4 projects, with a total repair length of about 15/74.4km of the entire route, which is not enough to solve all traffic safety issues on National Highway 14D, ensure transportation needs, and socio -economic development," the document of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee clearly stated.
Therefore, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province requested the Ministry of Transport to speed up the progress of investment documents and procedures, and promptly implement investment in upgrading and renovating National Highway 14D. Consider and supplement additional funding to continue repairs in 2024 and the following years.
While waiting for the upgrade and renovation of the entire route, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province requested the Ministry of Transport to consider and implement emergency measures.
For now, vehicles with more than 5 axles carrying ore are prohibited from traveling on National Highway 14D. The transportation of ore through Nam Giang International Border Gate can be done by transferring to regular trucks with small loads (under 30 tons) to facilitate travel and overcome congestion at 10 curves with small radius, narrow, and not yet renovated.
