DTO - On the afternoon of May 16, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha - Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) chaired an online conference to review the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the first quarter and directions and tasks for the second quarter of 2025. Attending the online conference at the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee bridge were representatives of leaders of departments, branches, and the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee.
According to the assessment of the National Traffic Safety Committee, compared to the first quarter of 2024, in the first quarter of 2025, traffic accidents nationwide decreased in all three criteria of number of cases, number of deaths, and number of injuries. Nationwide, there were 4,760 cases, killing 2,615 people and injuring 3,186 people; compared to the same period in 2024, there was a decrease of 1,833 cases, 215 fewer deaths, and 2,003 fewer injuries.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that although traffic accidents have decreased in all three criteria, traffic congestion in major cities still causes many consequences for traffic safety and environmental pollution. The Deputy Prime Minister requested that localities continue to have solutions to reduce the number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries.
At the conference, delegates said that although the propaganda anddissemination of traffic safety laws have been strengthened, people's awareness and responsibility when participating in traffic is still not high. Traffic participants still drive at a speed exceeding the prescribed speed limit, violate alcohol concentration, and students drive vehicles that are not qualified.
Regarding solutions in the coming time, localities should increase traffic patrols, install security cameras to impose fines, fix “black spots” of traffic safety violations, and continue to disseminate and educate people about traffic safety laws. Delegates suggested that the Central Government invest in expanding roads, building synchronous traffic infrastructure, and at the same time maintaining and repairing degraded traffic systems to limit traffic accidents.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested central and local ministries, branches and localities to clearly state the existing problems, causes and propose solutions to reduce traffic accidents. In the coming time, ministries, branches and localities need to have synchronous solutions and unify awareness in organizing and implementing, assigning specific responsibilities to achieve high efficiency.
In Dong Thap province, in the first quarter (from December 15, 2024 to March 14, 2025), there were 103 incidents, killing 53 people, injuring 80 people, and causing property damage of more than 469 million VND. Compared to the same period in the first quarter of 2024, there was an increase of 32 incidents, a decrease of 5 deaths, and an increase of 59 injuries. |
