Mr. Han Duck Soo made the pledge during a phone call after the National Assembly passed a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol on December 14 over his declaration of martial law on December 3.
During the phone call, Mr. Han said the management of state affairs will be conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution and laws, and the government will carry out foreign and security policies without any interruption.
The two leaders discussed the situation in South Korea following the impeachment vote, strengthening the US-South Korea alliance and the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
The acting president stressed the need to strengthen the South Korea-US joint defense posture amid growing threats from North Korea's nuclear weapons and deepening cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
In response, President Biden is said to have expressed confidence in South Korea's democracy and reaffirmed the "rock-solid" alliance between the two countries, pledging to work with Seoul to develop and strengthen the South Korea-US alliance and trilateral cooperation with Japan.
