Mekong Express operates two trips per week, the barge service helps shorten transit time from 48 hours for the river route to only 15 hours thanks to the combination of river and sea routes, equivalent to a 70% improvement in time. The transport distance is also shortened from about 367 km to 200 km, contributing to optimizing efficiency and saving costs for shippers nationwide.
Mekong Express is designed to transport dry and refrigerated cargo, with a capacity of up to hundreds of TEUs per voyage, including the ability to handle large numbers of refrigerated containers. The partners also plan to expand the route, adding stops at Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) - a port operated by DP World - and Saigon Hiep Phuoc Port of Vietnam National Shipping Lines.
The new service is also a more sustainable solution than road transport, reducing carbon emissions by up to 60%. By equipping the service with a cargo monitoring system and real-time emissions tracking, DP World and VIMC Lines expect Mekong Express to achieve its net zero emissions target by 2026.
