Tic Disorder or Tic Disoder is a new disease that has appeared in children recently. It is a manifestation of abnormal muscle movements that are repeated continuously and without control.
Causes of Tic Disorders in Children
The Ministry of Health has recorded that in the past 3 months, many hospitals in the Southern region and Hanoi have had many cases of children suffering from Tic disorder syndrome. The cause of this disease comes from many sources. The first is genetic factors, abnormalities in the brain or neurotransmitters. The second is environmental and biological factors such as allergens, chemicals, and it can also be due to children being affected by movies or video games. Children with Tic disorder are often brought to the clinic because they watch too much TV, the Internet, play games, play Ipad...

Tic disorders are divided into many groups: Motor Tics belong to motor muscle groups, Vocal Tics belong to respiratory muscle groups. Motor Tics are divided into 2 groups: Simple Tics and Complex Tics. Simple motor Tics include symptoms such as: eye blinking, jaw jerking, head shaking. Complex motor Tics include symptoms such as: head turning, shoulder patting, jumping... Simple vocal Tics include symptoms such as: throat clearing, coughing, nose blowing, spitting, screaming, barking, whistling, chirping, mumbling...
According to medical experts, Tic disorder usually occurs in children under 18 years old. It is often severe in children aged 11-12, then gradually decreases when children enter puberty. But in many cases, it will follow the child into adulthood.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, Department of Neurology, Children's Hospital 1 ( Ho Chi Minh City): "Parents take their children to the hospital when they see unusual signs but are completely unaware of this Tic disorder. In fact, Tic disorder is not dangerous but causes aesthetic loss for children. Children with Tic disorder are often due to parents being too busy, leaving their children with grandparents to look after or letting their children watch TV, the Internet, play games, play Ipad... too much. Many parents have had to take their children to the hospital for treatment, even in severe cases requiring treatment for more than 2 weeks. If Tic disorder is left for too long, it can easily lead to neurological complications."
Early detection and proper treatment are needed.
Currently, in Ca Mau, there have been no cases of children with Tic disorder. This is good news for parents. However, summer is the time when children are exposed to more electronic devices and social networks, which leads to a higher risk of facing Tic disorder.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, Tic disorder can be cured quickly if detected early. Children with mild illness can be treated with supplements and psychological therapy. Children with severe illness must use special medicine, so parents need to persistently cooperate with doctors in treatment. First, children must get enough sleep, 8 hours/day. Second, reduce internal pressure on children, relieve anxiety, and let children play comfortably according to their age. Third, stop letting children watch TV or use phones, and stop contact with social networks that have many trends that affect the nervous system, such as TikTok... It is very important to supplement Omega Vit for children.
In addition, parents should also note that Tic symptoms often increase when children are anxious, excited or tired. Knowing that, parents will proactively organize gentle activities to attract children's attention and focus at home to help reduce the impact of Tic. At the same time, encouraging children when they try to control Tic also contributes to increasing their positive behavior. In daily life, families need to pay attention to avoid criticizing children, and at the same time reassure them when Tic symptoms affect their emotions and self-confidence. Spending time interacting and communicating with children and limiting phone use also helps reduce the negative impact of Tic disorders in particular and children's development in general.
For children who are addicted to watching TV or using mobile phones, parents need to gradually reduce the amount of time they spend on them. Do not force your child to stop playing suddenly. Instead, spend time playing with your child, such as playing with puzzles, reading books, participating in physical activities or doing housework together.
Some cases can recover after a short period of medication. However, there are also cases where the condition does not respond to medication and relapses, requiring hospitalization. For these severe and special cases, doctors will use medication combined with psychological therapy for the child. Most children will improve after about 3-6 months./.
